Place your bets as to who.

Not Astolat, because she would know already.

Sherwood Smith, maybe? Or Rachel Manija Brown? I think Seanan McGuire has already written treats for her own stories before.

I don't see why they need to ask. If they were honestly concerned for whatever reason that it was weird or not allowed or whatever, they could just create a sock and write the fic. No one would ever know it was them.

And thus you have answered your own question. Famewhoring will always trump genuine gifting.

Lee's my guess. He showed up on FFA once, and the tone seems similar.

Man, would it suck to be the assigned writer who wrote for the same prompt that the canon author treated. (Though I've got to admit I would lol forever if this happened and the one not by the canon author got all the recs and praise before reveals or was the recipient's really obvious fave.)

Rocky Flinstone would be cool.

Related: coalies, if a canon author wrote you a treat, how would you prefer it to be delivered?

1) Author writes it under their public username as the author of the canon
2) Author writes it through an open-secret sockpuppet, a la Astolat
3) Author socks up hard, and maintains a public image of keeping a polite distance from fic-writing fandom

I'm fine with whatever! Though I would lean towards 1 and 2 just because I would be thrilled to get author-written fic for any of my canons. (I mean, if Anne Rice wants to get over herself and write me Lestat/Armand smut, who am I to stop her??)

I'd want the author to do whatever they felt most comfortable with. If the author's obvious, even though I'd be thrilled as a recip, there /would/ be side-eyeing from some corners. So the author would have to know if they were comfortable with that discussion happening; if they're matter-of-fact and DGAF, they should be good. If they get overinvested in anon wank and either stress themselves out or whine about it, they should consider socking up.

3. Definitely 3.

Somewhere between 2 and 3--keep it vague enough that I kind of know, but I don't KNOW.

1 or 2, definitely. Though Astolat isn't a sockpuppet, it's just her fannish ID.

It's Claudia Gray. She hasn't self-promoted over on ffa for a while.

I'd be mad if Masato Kato somehow found Yuletide and wrote me a treat, because I already read that dude's Chrono Trigger fanfic and it fucking sucked.
