characters replying “point” to something

... I really wonder what the story is behind the first one.

I immediately thought of author Timothy Zahn, who has a pervasive written tic where all his characters say "Point" when another character makes a point in conversation. Back when I was deeply in Star Wars fandom, a lot of people gnashed their teeth over the "Point... point... point" in his books.
