The Dirty Energy Source

Do you want to make a spreadsheet about spreadsheets?
Do you still need to figure out what two other fandoms you should request beside the only one you really want fic for?
Or are you trolling ALL the letter posts for placeholders, just so you can write those people some nice, dry coal?

We want to know all about it.

Aww. Do you mind saying what they are, or are they so tiny it'd probably out you? (Uh, though given the situation, it's probably the latter.)

Which fics were the biggest coal of last year?

Obligatory raptor fucking mention.

Laura's Wolf by Lia Silver - I'm not sure it's specified exactly what her size is, but she's self-conscious about her weight and has a belly/is curvy.

Gehayi's screed on Why 50 Shades Is A Bad Book For Bads was my personal least favorite and I don't even like 50 shades.

E.M. Forster's Maurice, set in England after WWI (when homosexuality could get you thrown in jail or worse). Two canon m/m relationships.

The movie wasn't nominated but it's also very good (also: naked Rupert Graves).

I think you replied to the wrong comment!

Whoops nope my bad! Looked like you replied to the subthread OP for a second.

Maybe we live in countries with very different treatment of cattle, because they are definitely not exempt from factory farms, waddling, downing, inadequate stunning, and conditions such that constant antibiotic use is the norm, because otherwise the cattle will die in mass numbers.

It was absolutely coal for the recipient, but I kind of loved raptor fic in a morbid way.

Well, *I* would love that fic, coalie!

Yeah, they're almost all the latter - non-western sources, theater, and obscure books. But also the Elric Saga, which I don't think is at all obscure!

This one still stands out to me. Exactly 1000 words and clearly padded, awkwardly written, nothing really happens. I'd rather get something that's at least hilariously bad like Untherius fic than this.

Nah, it's more to do with societal attitudes towards animals + "cute" traits. A big-eyed baby bird is going to get more love than a rat or a bat, despite their mammalian status, and a ladybug will always be more loved than a cockroach.

Framed might be up your alley. It's 4 hours of UK tv from the 90s.

It's about a criminal-turned-informer and the young cop assigned to babysit him. The criminal, played by Timothy Dalton, is smarmy and seductive and obviously up to something. He keeps trying to win the cop over or keep him off-balance. Some of this involves teaching him to play chess and more conventional means like that, but he also gives him underwear and asks him strange, blatantly-sexual questions. At one point, the cops discuss whether he might be gay.

He sends his girlfriends to sleep with the cop. There's a scene that cuts back and forth between each of the male leads having sex. They're with women and in separate places, but it cuts between their faces, which is about as unsubtle as it gets. The series ends with [[SPOILER]] them running away together.

There's no canon gay sex, but whatever the hell is going on is so blatant nobody is going to need slash goggles to see it. I would be shocked if anyone ever requested or offered this fandom for anything but dirtybadwrong m/m or dirtybadwrong m/m/f with a focus on the guys.

I'm so pleased that Long Live the Queen has become like, this virus roping in so many people here.

I still like making what I wrote hard to guess. When you've left kudos on all the fics in the fandom you got a gift in but one....

I get what you're saying, but do you think anyone else is really paying that much attention to what you've kudos'd?

Idk about anyone else, but my circle of friends will usually play "guess what I wrote" games during the anon period. It's kind of like a treasure hunt!

The same way some people freakishly get off on stalking their recips, some people have a hard on for correctly guessing who wrote their fic before reveals.

It's cray. And you never know if your recip is one of them.

Never offer any canon where I can't think of a few fics to write off the top of my head, to avoid those "what the fuck am I supposed to do with this blank/anything's-fine request?!" blues.

Re: Your own Yuletide guidelines!

(Anonymous) 2014-10-23 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
+0.5 I think it definitely depends on the size of the fandom- something with 2 or 3 fics? I might notice (not that I'd care though, unless one of those fics was mine). Something with 5 or more? I probably won't read every fic, let alone notice who's kudosed what.

Yeah those prostitutes and that homeless man totally had a chance in American Psycho.

That's what I don't get - being fine with violence being wreaked on fictional vulnerable humans but then kicking up a fuss over violence inflicted on an equally fictional animal.

I never claimed it was rational, but that's how my mind processes it. I'm not kicking up any fuss, I'm simply fine with darkfic but would prefer no abuse to animals to be mentioned in it.
