The Dirty Energy Source

Do you want to make a spreadsheet about spreadsheets?
Do you still need to figure out what two other fandoms you should request beside the only one you really want fic for?
Or are you trolling ALL the letter posts for placeholders, just so you can write those people some nice, dry coal?

We want to know all about it.

Re: Repeating letter content

Other than a few adjustments here and there, I repeat pretty much everything that's useable. This year I'm swapping out a couple of fandoms, but the ones that I'm requesting again I'm just leaving as I wrote them last year. I still want fic for them and my preferences haven't changed. I just don't see the point in spending time writing something over again that will ultimately say the exact same thing.

From AD: There's been more than one person so far this year who's linked to copies of their letter on multiple platforms (e.g. Tumblr and DW) and there's been at least one person who wrote a separate letter for each fandom. Linking to the comments here avoids issues with multiple URLs.

Seems pretty competent to me. Wank harder, coalie.

How long a fic are we talking about? If it's 5K or less, I'd barge ahead. If it's bigger, I'd do more thinking/planning as in How important is the detail? How could B plausibly discover it?

This one is requesting Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell:

i saw a prompt for a fandom i hadn't thought of offering and i'm keen to start writing a treat tomorrow - but the letter has been deleted. so i don't know whether to forget it or if i should go ahead with the fic in the hope that they'll still request that fandom when they repost their letter

Re: Writing

It's gonna be long.

B would have to hear the detail from A (probably through A complaining?) which is completely plausible. Another option is that C comes into the picture and drops the detail bomb as a threat/one upsmanship thing, which is in character for them.

There are ways to impart the detail (it's key to the drama of the story and it's what will eventually need to be resolved so that A/B and C can be happy) that are fine, but having it introducted from A's POV would feel a lot more natural. It's something that if I were doing a fic/kink meme fill I would mentioned upfront in the authors notes so that I didn't have to hash it out.

I suppose I could do one POV shift really early on to A's POV in order to reveal the detail if I don't like how it comes to light from B's? I really don't want to, but the option is always there, righr? :/

Write it! Worst come worst you can post it outside of the collection.

Gift it to a sock (your own or a friends) if the letter never comes back.

Oh, finch. No one is ever going to like you.

Re: Writing

You could shift POVs, although from what you've described, having C drop the information sounds like the most organic possibility.

DA. Yeah, I may end up posting something outside the collection. The person I'm treating always does Yuletide but doesn't post their letter until the very end of signups, and I'm already writing, so I'll get burned if they change their mind about prompts.

Just over the dramaz and pathetic attempts to stir up more wank.

AYRT

I sure hope so! Natsume is one of the fandoms I'm offering this year, and I'm keeping that number to 12 or less! I REALLY want to write it for someone.

Come on, letters!!!!

other exchanges

coalies, we may have had a thread for this already but i can't find it. what other holiday or around-that-time fandom challenges are running this year? i'm looking for an mcu one especially that doesn't seem terrible, but i just like to look around and see what's running.

There's always the option of putting it in your letter but not putting it in your signup. That way if someone cruising the letters gets an idea or loves your prompt, they can treat you, but you don't have to worry about matching on it.

Where is the letter for Proefkonijnen RPF? Someone commented about it on the pimping post, but their letter doesn't mention it :-(

They've been doing it that way for a least a few years now. It's one extra click, big whoop.

Huh, apparently the mods never fixed the Fate/stay night nominations, even though I saw at least two people pointing out the problems during the review period. Why would the mods just ignore them?

Who Else Hasn't Decided What They're Asking For?

(Anonymous) 2014-10-18 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Besides me. I haven't even read the tag set to see what's available. I know what I nominated and have an idea of what to ask for in those fandoms but I'm not finalizing my request until signups.

Who else is procrastinating?

Multifandom:
fandom_stocking - list your likes, people make you things
in_small_packages - up to ten prompts, posted anon, and people fill them

There's also supposed to be a hockey exchange run again, run by svmadelyn.

Me!

I start writing my letter once signups open, there's no need to hurry.

I want to write more treats. People who want treats don't have any. What's the best way to match us?

I have too many options and I still haven't decided which six I want the most.

Look in the letter post for people who have requested fandoms you can write in.

Go on their AO3 page. See if there are any mystery works in their gifts. If not, these people don't have any fics waiting for them yet. Write something for them.
