... it kind of depends on the fandom, actually. There's one fandom I write for year-round and if I gave someone the best fic ever in that fandom and it got recced around and people checked out my other fic and liked it and possibly got into the fandom and etc., I would be in pure heaven. So for that fandom I'd rather give (though receiving wouldn't be bad either, obviously).

Most fandoms, though, I'd rather receive. I'm greedy and I want a really good fic that I can force all my friends to read and see how amazing it is, mwahaha.
