People were trying to identify all the nominated BL in that thread. Most of the first post is stuff that's a little bit in the longer range, I think the bottom post has more one shots. I don't know everything though, so it might be worth pasting titles into manga reader sites or mangaupdates and seeing how long/how interesting you'd find them.

"First and foremost, character fidelity is very important to me. That's not to say there isn't room for character deviation, but I prefer it to be plausible in-'verse."

I laughed at that, too.

Re: So what fandom that you AREN'T requesting or offering do you hope gets written?

Samurai Flamenco. I love it and I want more fic, but requesting/offering it in an exchange? What a crapshoot!

That list also missed:

氷の魔物の物語 | Koori no Mamono no Monogatari | The Ice-Cold Demon's Tale

Ha! One year I got assigned to write a fic for astolat's pro books, which was its own kind of stressful. Still not really sure why I offered that, but I'm proud of the fic.

I might be and it definitely is not too extreme, but when my recip said "no porn" for a pairing that goes straight that direction to me (not passing go nor collecting $200), it turns out the alternative for me is gen with a line that mentions they have had sex before. I hoped to imply they probably were going to again after the fic ended, but may have failed. This probably happened because I can write porn, but writing kissing in an interesting way is something I have never mastered.

Re: Casefic

(Anonymous) 2014-10-26 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
I've often asked for casefic, but that's because most of my fandoms are detective shows. I can't imagine asking for casefic in a fandom that wasn't already mystery. I like detectives a lot. I like clever people being clever and have a bit of a competence kink. I love puzzles and logic.
I think good casefic can be short. Plots don't have to be convoluted to be clever.

Their tongues twined together in that sacred, age-old dance that lights the spark of lust, their panted breath echoing the desire that beat within their hearts, and Hermione knew - in one blinding moment - that she loved Ginevra Weasley, utterly and irrevocably.

/removes Sleeping Beauty from offers list

I'm just lucky I already had more than enough fandoms to offer.

Is that you, person that I know in RL, or is this just a giant coincidence?

AYRT

...Probably not? I know a couple LJ people IRL, but I don't think anybody did femslashex. xD I'm just being silly because it's late.

I really wanted to offer Dungeons & Dragons, but there's only one other requester and I'm afraid I'd match to this one. I do not want to write an Inception crossover. Or any crossover. Also, if you write Push it's totally okay to kill off Kira, but don't do it problematically.

a) as opposed to giving a fucking crap and putting some serious effort into one's commitment

b) I would prefer never getting paired with such a writer at all, as in I'd prefer such a total wimp doesn't sign up in the first place. Spares a lot of people lots of needless work and disappointment.

c) if you request your only dearest and rarest fandoms it's pretty easy to do so. It has worked just so for not only me for a number of years now.

d) Maths are helpful. As are sign-ups and matches.

e) it's unlikely given the matching process.

f) it is less of a dick move if you tried in earnest to fullfill your obligations, instead of taking the easy way out. If that amount of commitment bothers you, why sign up in the first place?

g) read pinch hit stories, their quality is usually another notch lower. Which is understandable.

i) it's part and parcel of Yuletide that you don't get to write in the usual recent or former popular fandoms. Which is writing outside of one's box in the majority of cases.

It's just funny because [RL friend] was repeatedly quoting something very similar to that to me the other day.

Hahaha, just a totally weird coincidence, then!

Re: Anyone writing/written any treats yet?

(Anonymous) 2014-10-26 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
I wanted to get a headstart on my treats. The signup summary shows several request but I can't find a letter anywhere for any of the fandoms I want to treat :(
Come on, combined 20+ people who have requested those fandoms! You can't all be of the no-letter bunch! Or is this an incestuous thing and you are hiding in you little fandom circles?

Pimping Fandoms for Money

(Anonymous) 2014-10-26 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
Can't say I like that I see a rising number of fandoms of self-published authors added. This comes over as a commercial usage of the event on a level with marketing and advertising. More like abuse than usage. Those authors go on my never-to-buy list for what I consider unethical behavior.

Re: Pimping Fandoms for Money

(Anonymous) 2014-10-26 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
How can you tell that it's the authors doing it, though? Maybe it's people who read the book(s) and want fic?

Re: Nightmare Recipient

NA

+1000

It really sounds like a fundamental difference in how people see Yuletide. I'm not expecting a dream fic tailored to my every wish. I love this fandom and just want a new story in it. Maybe it's even the only story in it.

It makes me sad that people are so ready to default if they can't write a dream fic for their recipient.

Some of the best stories I've read are stories I never even imagined until I read them.

Remember though this entire conversation is between maybe five people with strong opinions either way. Five out of two thousand!

Re: Pimping Fandoms for Money

(Anonymous) 2014-10-26 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
Even if it is the authors self-nomming, I don't really see how it's unethical. Awkward and a little embarrassing, yeah, but not unethical.

Re: Pimping Fandoms for Money

(Anonymous) 2014-10-26 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
Fans ought to think twice before they do something that tacky. Especially when it's going to be the first ever fic on the internet for that author and that of all things in one of the biggest and most covered and read challenges. The coincidence is a bit too much to be believed. Call me a cynic.
