I'm bookmarking just fandoms right now. Once more letters get posted for each I'll bookmark the ones I really like. Most have none or one right now.

Looking forward to more letters for Murderbot Diaries, Invisible Cities, and Look What You Made Me Do. The ones posted so far are pretty great.

Are you ready?

I got a pretty meh story last year, so I left a nice enough comment and haven't reread it since. Just went back to look, though, and two other people have commented since last Yuletide pointing out inconsistencies in the story and suggesting plot hole fixes.... guess I wasn't the only one to find it a bit meh??

I was worried about not having read Ballroom e Youkosou but whitedandelion's request looks like it will work with anime-only knowledge so that's in my treat pile for now.

Do you wait until you're done with your letter to sign up? I do for other exchanges, but never when the requests are unrevealed.

Usually not, but I wanted to be done beforehand and have it up on the letter post. Alas...

Nooooo I need to finish this other exchange fic before I sign up for Yuletide, those are The Rules. Also my letter is incoherent bullet points right now.

ON THE OTHER HAND I have seen The Request of My Dreams in the letters so I am already reviewing canon.

I have my requests and my letter is done! I just don't know what my offers will be, yet. I need more letters to decide!

SA

Oh, and Jackalope Wives! Forgot about that one. And Mr. Trash Wheel! I follow him on Twitter.

What would stop you from treating a letter?

(Anonymous) 2017-09-30 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Say you have the time, inclination, and inspiration to go on a treating spree. What could someone say in their letter that would make you not want to treat them?

Re: Signups begin tomorrow!!

(Anonymous) 2017-09-30 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Absolutely, considering I'll edit my offers about 90 times over the course of signups.

Anything bashing, even if I agree with it, even if it's not about the fandom we matched on. If you can't make it through your letter without going negative, I'm not going to have much faith that you don't have a hundred unspoken DNWs that you'll get pissy about.

MAYBE. I am 100% ready for my requests and thanks to the amazing coadie, I have a good set of potential offers bookmarked. Just need to narrow down characters and stress over lack of letters!

usually just that they want something outside of my skillset (porn, historical details, casefic, etc) or they want gen when I want to write shipfic. I wouldn't treat someone who has a history of not commenting but that doesn't usually show up in a letter lmao.

"I just added this fandom to get to three", "I hate (requested character), fix them", "canon sucks"

"But I'm sure we can all agree that [controversial position I don't agree with them about]". No. No, we can't. Fuck off.

"No femslash". Even if it's a canon where I would have been writing gen, het, or dudeslash, if the letter writer explicitly DNWs femslash, it turns me off. I always have more bookmarked letters than I'll have time to treat anyway, so it can be a good winnowing mechanism.

*interest in tropes / ships / emotional tones / etc. that don't do anything for me
*good ideas i don't feel i could write / don't have a spontaneous plotbunny that fits their wants
*comes off like a dick, whether because they're racist/sexist/homophobic or just sound really demanding
*related: if their dnws include ooc characters or bad grammar, because that assumes such poor faith of potential writers and always seems dickish to me
*won't necessarily keep me from treating but i will be considerably less enthused for people who insist on writing things like "SQUEEE THANK YOU SO MUCH THANK YOU SO SO MUCH FOR WRITING FOR ME \o/" at the start, i get that you want to sound gracious but it reads really fake to me

generally, if i'm not inclined to write for someone, it's because i'm the wrong writer for them. that's just how the cookie crumbles at times. if you're polite, friendly, and include ideas, you're doing things right, coalie.
