What do you look for when treating?

Like the title says. Extra points if it's more than fandom or character/ship that makes you type up a treat storm.

When a person gives me lots of info on why they like a canon and what they like about it. I love the squee. It makes me excited to write.

Prompts that are more specific than "What if Alice didn't do the thing at the end of S2?" or "I'm so sad this show was canceled! What do you think S3 would have been?"

I'm willing to dig deep for my assignment but for treats I want you to paint me some sort of sketch for what you want the fic to be. Time I'm spending brainstorming is time I could be using to write for someone who had a prompt that instantly made me go "yup ok I know exactly what this fic is going to be *opens word doc*."

A fandom I can write for! I rarely have very many requested fandoms I feel capable of writing for. Then it's on the basis of a prompt I find interesting and have an idea I could write for. Then it's on the basis of my inspiration and whether one of the possible recipients leaves comments I consider to be better.

+1

I don't have a very large pool to choose from these days.

Prompts where I can see the story I would write. Also people who say they like art treats, I always doubt gifting art otherwise.

If I haven't already decided I'm going to treat someone (e.g. someone who's written me a treat in a previous year, who shares my fandom tastes, is requesting a fandom/pairing I really want to write, etc.), I look for engaging prompts that make me immediately think of how the plot/trope/scenario would work and that gets me excited about writing. They don't have to be really involved or complicated prompts, but there has to be enough there for me to get some inspiration.

"Unreasonable" requests that are nearly a plot outline!

I'm way more likely to write these than a vaguer request.

+1000000 Always

I wish more people did a mix. Have all the season like a cello prompts you want. Just give me one plot outline so people like me can actually treat your ass.

Assuming I know the characters and the fandom, I don't tend to treat requests that just ask for fluff or characters hanging out or post-canon stories in canons where all the problems are resolved. While I understand why someone would want their holiday surprise to be something simple and happy, and would write that if it were my assignment, for treats I'm more inspired by prompts that add some sort of friction or conflict, or otherwise inspire me to elaborate on part of the character we only got hints of in canon.

1 If I know the fandom and wrote in it before

2 If I know the fandom and want to try writing for it

3 If the requester is someone who wrote for me before
