Eh. It doesn't seem that unworkable? I haven't read the book in ages, and maybe it's different in the movie, but I think there's a lot of "Pennywise fucks with them" moments in canon that don't have Pennywise appear on page. I assume they just want, like, blood to start dripping out of the faucets and creepy old pictures to start moving and black balloons to follow them around.

I mean, it's not necessarily unworkable, but it is pretty vague and contradictory considering this is a hard DNW for them. If there was a bit more explanation, I would probably treat them, but as it is, I'm unsure enough about where the line is that I'm gonna pass.

I actually always found that stuff way more creepy than when Pennywise himself shows up.

That was my first thought, re: the movie. "Maybe they threw that DNW in because Pennywise himself is pure nightmare fuel retardant."
