Because if you look at it from a 'people might find the Nazis admirable rather than awful' angle, it's probably a bigger problem in a country where the Nazi way of thinking still / once again has a massive platform.

If there's anyone who would be given a special pass to make that kind of material, it would be people with a Jewish background. I mean, I personally think it's generally okay to produce movies like this as long as they're realistic and not in any way romanticising Nazis, but saying "it's only okay if the producer is German/Italian/Austrian" feels extremely weird to be.

Eh I get where you're coming from, but I'm also definitely more willing to give this kind of material a chance if it's coming from a country that has actually done at least a minimal bit of Vergangenheitsbewältigung/auseinandersetzung.
