It bothers me because in my dialect, 'dude' is mostly ungendered. Everyone is a dude, from your two year-old nephew to your grandma to your dog. So it doesn't even fix the issue it sets out to solve.

I think this is common, at least among a certain age group of Americans (idk about other English speaking countries), but I did have the experience once, where I worked, that a transwoman asked me to stop saying dude to her. :/ That's like trying to stop saying "like" or "um." I tried, but I didn't always succeed, since it was almost an unconscious form of address.
