Big Eden.

I want a big Pike/Dean romance where Dean thinks of Henry as a brother (or w/e) and that's why it didn't work out when they were younger, but when he moves back into town he sees Pike and....yeah, that man does something for him. Dean becomes over the top and flirty with Pike, who has never had anyone treat him like that in his life.

I wouldn't ask for it because most Yuletiders seem to love Henry/Pike and I don't. I'm not interested in Henry at all beyond thinking that he's kind of an asshole. My dream fic above would be the AU where Dean moves home and Henry doesn't. Henry can stay offscreen in NYC with his art career and closure about his Dean hangups.

What did Henry do? I've read some recommendations of the film, but I can't watch it because my grandfather too had a stroke and died not that long ago and I think it will upset me.

He had a crush on his straight best friend and cut off all contact with him to try to get over that. Fair, because you need to take care of yourself first and foremost and an unhealthy obsession that keeps you from having real relationships with viable candidates, but then we see that losing his BFF was very hard on the straight best friend, who hadn't done anything wrong.

When reuinted later in their lives, the straight BFF did his best not to be with a woman and went so far as to kiss Henry because he knew that was what he wanted, and giving that to Henry to keep him in the BFFs life was worth it to the friend, even though he is not gay. Henry, who encouraged the friend to be so devoted to him, got mad at the straight BFF for not being in love with him, and cut off contact again. Eventually they resolve it, but IMO it's shitty to be mad at someone for not loving you. Esp when that person wasn't mad at you for your crush and still wanted to try to make a friendship work even though your boundaries were the ones that were fucked.

While all that is happening, he completely ignores the guy who does like him until things don't work out with the straight best friend. This guy goes beyond any love interests measure to help Henry and his family out while Henry is a spectrum of rude-willfully blind to him. Even if Pike wasn't in love with him, the way he treats this guy who is trying to be friendly is so rude.

tl;dr He was a jerk to his BFF and his love interest. Henry/Pike isn't problematic and Henry isn't problematic, but Dean and Pike are so totally so sweet on their own that I'd rather read about them together than have to hear one more word about Henry. If Pike or Dean had actual flaws I wouldn't be this mad, but they're both great! Ditch the zero and get with the hero.

Coalie, this is basically everything I ever wanted to see in a Big Eden fic. Also, you should totally ask for it if you want it; anyone in the fandom who doesn't want to break up their canonical OTP can just...not offer Dean. (Though it wouldn't hurt to have your letter up early if you do end up requesting Big Eden, to make the chances of a mismatch even slimmer.)

I would be so here for this. I likewise didn't care for Henry - didn't particularly think he was an asshole, but couldn't conceive of why other characters thought he was so special - but Pike/Dean would be amazing.

I feel like everyone in The Terror has read the books and I don't care about all that level of details.

I don't offer JS&MN TV for the same reason in reverse. I want to write with the mood of the show, not the wordiness of the canon lit.

One of my pet hates is how bad fandom is at distinguishing between different forms of media. I've never seen a movie or tv adaptation of a book that was so bang on to the original that a fic could be tagged with both and yet they always are.

You're just fine the way you are, nonnie! (And if you request it in future changes I think saying "I don't give a fuck about the book" is pretty fair.) I pretty much only read the book because I thought it was informing everyone's enjoyment of the show but it turns out they have fuck-all to do with one another, and thank God for that. They're different enough that even if someone has read the book, huge swaths of it are basically irreconcilable with the show, from small details to huge stuff.

There was at least one person who requested JS&MN TV fic last year who hadn't read the book!

Live shows where I haven't actually seen them myself. Sorry but I'm poor and don't live in NYC! Theatre fandom ime is nitpicky and I don't want to get made fun of on FFA for having dumb prompts or writing plebeian fic that doesn't have the nuances of the performance.

If you know where to look there are some relatively good bootlegs out there. I found bootlegs of almost all the musicals in the tagsets this year.

I just requested the fandom in which I'm the outlier. Did anyone offer what I want to write? Probably not. Are any of the other requests interesting to me? Nope. But I still request it on the off chance that I'm wrong this time.

I have a couple of fandoms where only one letter is the one I want to treat because all the others are garbage to me. I hope you're one of them, coalie. Us misfits gotta stick together.

Noooo, that's sad. I can't tell you how many letters/prompts I run into that have a different take on canon than normal, and I love it, especially if it's a take I share. Those are the prompts I want to treat.

Will never request it, but I'm actually interested in a Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju fic exploring the whole suggested Konatsu/Yakumo sexual relationship.
