The Dirty Energy Source

Do you want to make a spreadsheet about spreadsheets?
Do you still need to figure out what two other fandoms you should request beside the only one you really want fic for?
Or are you trolling ALL the letter posts for placeholders, just so you can write those people some nice, dry coal?

We want to know all about it.

"Mentions wanting a zombie outbreak Jurassic Park AU"

That sounds a bit like a mating call for Untherius.

Morbane posted a bunch of stats in the very early pre-Yuletide discussion this year, and I think that was one of them.

I seem to recall a few pretty good DS9 Kira/Odo soulbound fics back in the day. It was a Bajorian religious thing that involved ear groping.

Raven Cycle, per chance? I'm struggling with this too, though I can't imagine it will change the basics of what I want.

tbh I like the non US mods. I think only one of them (hh) is in the US.

Damn, should I amend it? I didn't even notice that this might be the equivalent of catnip when I thought of the request. I really do want Ian Malcolm fic though. :(

Still not as bad as this: http://finickycritic.tumblr.com/post/100370202302/dear-yuletide-author

You want... letters. I can definitely see letters.

Look at it this way, if you get matched to Untherius, you'll probably get lots of sympathy treats.

I think the few general prompts and the note saying that you might change some things after the new installment will work well. And even if you don't end up changing anything you want, a confirmation of that fact will help! A couple of years ago I was considering treating someone who wanted an open canon, and there was an awkward moment when the season finale revealed that the ship they wanted was (sort of?) incestuous.

They did make a post on tumblr saying their prompts still applied, but I had to dig a bit for it. So if something like that happens, editing in a line that says "I still ship A/B even after A turned into a chicken and B became a celebrity chef" would be helpful, even if you don't end up changing your prompts.

Welp, so much for treating Bugs Potter this year.

"Just a heads up, I’d rather not have any of these:

- OOCness
- crackfic
- drabbles with no plot
- porn without any plot whatsoever, IKEA style"

I'm guessing PWP Ikea style refers to porn all about inserting tab A into slot B? But isn't that what PWPs are anyway? And you gotta love OOCness and drabbles with no plot showing up on a DNW list. Because I'd deliberately write you badfic.

AO3 question

(Anonymous) 2014-10-19 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
Is it possible to view the tag set as plain text? My browser is freaking out every time I try to expand/contract a section, even something as small as the Theater section. This is making it difficult to compile my offers for when sign-ups go live... I've tried googling "plain text" or "light" view in relation to AO3 and it hasn't worked. Do I just need to copy everything into a document on my desktop?

Re: Bad Letters

Tumblr layout and DNWs don't bother me. They have a fandom I was dying to treat but

no :(
prompts :(
at :(
all :(
huh? :(

So now I can't. Hope somebdy else requests and gives actual prompts.

Re: Bad Letters

(Anonymous) 2014-10-19 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
What's wrong with not wanting crackfic though?

'Drabbles with no plot' could have been worded better and with more clarity, but that's a somewhat legitimate DNW. Reading that, I think they want 1000 words of a single story, not five separate 200-word vignettes that stop before any one of them goes anywhere interesting.

Re: Bad Letters

(Anonymous) 2014-10-19 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
I drew somebody like that last Yuletide. It sucked. But I grumped about it on coal and then wrote the fic *I* would have liked to read, and it's one of my most popular fics now. :) And hey, they commented fine & seemed to like it, so I guess it turned out okay.

It would have been pretty hard if I hadn't been able to think of a story I'd like to read, though.

Re: Ask _coal

(Anonymous) 2014-10-19 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, you can mention an unnominated character in your prompts even when they are too popular for Yuletide; it's not a problem unless you make it a demand and/or unless you don't provide any prompts that involve only nominated character(s).

Re: Bad Letters

(Anonymous) 2014-10-19 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
PWP just means porn without plot. IKEA style means bad porn that is all about insert tab A into slot B. PWP can still be GOOD porn, though, that's not IKEA porn.

AYRT

The exact same thing happened to me last year. My fic wound up being one of the most popular in my now too-big-for-yuletide fandom and was in the top two pages of the most popular fics of the whole collection. o/ high5

Treating is different than assignments for me, though. I'm not going to write someone an ODAO treat, ya feel? I wanted a nice detailed letter for that fandom, because no way am I offering it, so I'm :((((( that they stopped at general likes and didn't give prompts. Dealing with no details assignments is bad enough! At least give me detailed treat letters :(

Request fandoms that people are familiar with, like well-known movies, much-promoted five-minute fandoms, or classic books.

Make specific requests (no "anything's fine!" prompts) and be enthusiastic about them. Popular ships, juicy fandom tropes, or something appealingly cracky.

Be visibly friendly and positive in Yuletide spaces, and not a known wanker.
