The Dirty Energy Source

Do you want to make a spreadsheet about spreadsheets?
Do you still need to figure out what two other fandoms you should request beside the only one you really want fic for?
Or are you trolling ALL the letter posts for placeholders, just so you can write those people some nice, dry coal?

We want to know all about it.

lol come on. Look at the thread right above this about ~maximizing your treat chances. You guys all overthink yuletide to an insane degree. By the time the 26th rolls in y'all gonna have endless "my kudos:read ratio is 0.02% the horror" and "it's been 13 hours and 45 minutes and i still haven't gotten a comment."

I've also seen at least a couple of Maleficent requests, which might interest you?

I would rather hang out with people that get excited and over-invested than people who act like they're above it all.

Ennui is, dare I say it, boring.

Why be obsessed with yuletide? Well, why not?

Being invested in something that ultimately does not matter and (generally) won't affect you in real life can actually be pretty refreshing. Isn't that the point of fandom?

It's the internet and I'm happy to be rolling around in a Yuletide frenzy.

It's better when you realize they're hanging out on coal taking potshots at people who hang out on coal.

The wank is coming from inside the meme. Or it's thecolorclear. Funny either way.

Aww, nonnie, he might do a good job. You never know.

I just wish there were a fandom for that second book. Movie, Y U delete Malcolm's boyfriend? Y U make lady into damsel in distress instead of action hero?

ayrt

People like to get fic written for them. Asking other people how to get more fic written is not ~overthinking. *shrug*

Also, if you're not excited for fandom things, why the fuck are you in fandom?

(Anonymous) 2014-10-19 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
+1 that you can probably find two minutes of internet access

Write your signup details in a google doc so you have them handy and prepped. Have the link to your letter (if any) or journal/tumblr (if any) in that doc. Include a list of everything you're requesting and everything you're offering in the tag format from the tagset. Also note down character names in their exact format in case the autocomplete isn't working right and you have to manually enter them (works but has to be exact).

C&P into the form. Use your list of fandoms to quickly find the form of the fandom name being used for yuletide. C&P characters if autocomplete fails you.

If you know you won't have 2 minutes of internet access, prep your google doc, change your password, and get a friend to sign up for you.

This. Or just think about your offers and requests beforehand, write your letter, only enter your fandoms and characters into the AO3 sign-up (plus minimal optional details if you have the time), and link to your already finished letter. Should take you maybe ten minutes. And there really aren't a lot of places left where you will be absolutely unable to get any internet access for a week, at least in Europe. Even if you're going hiking in the countryside, hotels and many restaurants usually have wifi.

Re: Bad Letters

(Anonymous) 2014-10-19 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
"drabbles with no plot" are not necessarily badfic. AIRT said, "Who would want five separate 200-word vignettes that stop before any of them goes anywhere interesting?" and my answer, like the answer of the anon above me, is, "Me."

Boredom. There's nothing happening yet so people are making their own entertainment. Along with everything else starting too early this year, _coal woke up too soon.

Try looking at the page source? They'll all show up, but you'll have to deal with code around it.

GOOGLE IT.

Re: Why?

I know, right? Back in the good old days we were just mean, and now we're mean and conversational, and it's terrible. Thanks, Obama.

Seriously, Nonny, at this point Yuletide is basically its own fandom. A lot of us get overinvested the same way we might get overinvested in a tv show or something. When there's nothing new to wank about, people still want to talk, even if that means making weird overanalytical comments.
