The Dirty Energy Source

Do you want to make a spreadsheet about spreadsheets?
Do you still need to figure out what two other fandoms you should request beside the only one you really want fic for?
Or are you trolling ALL the letter posts for placeholders, just so you can write those people some nice, dry coal?

We want to know all about it.

+1 Personally, I rarely finish fic without a deadline.

Are you a little weiner trapped in a vagina just waiting to come out?

Or are you and your sad balls pining for ovaries that will never come? Depressed that the red river won't ever flow through it?

A seizure or a small tower on a castle?

I'm NAYRT, but I'll answer for that person. Yes.

Lord, she is a piece of work, sending her minions in to start the trash-talking for her.

Though she certainly does seem to inspire some...experimental fic. At some point she's got to look at her won prompts and wonder what she's doing to inspire them. Or, well, she doesn't, but she should.

I don't think people are motivated by YT publicity.

"No one cares about NYRs. They barely get written and barely get attention on them."

"But yeah, it doesn't get the broader Yuletide attention."

"After Yuletide is over, they're akin to comment_fic and the attention is off."

"There's genuinely not an audience for most of this stuff."

Sounds like publicity is indeed a real factor for more than a few people. Deadlines too, and like I said in my original comment, getting fic for yourself as well as/more than writing it for other people. Actual love for a small fandom seems to come in fourth place as far as motivation goes.

But hey, if providing more of #1-3 helps out with #4, great! I don't think Actual Yuletide all year is the way to do it--I think people would burn out--but some kind of assignment/deadline process from old prompts could work.

Nope. And the worst part was, we were friends at the time!

She was kind of a weirdo, though, so no loss.

"We both have our own interpretations of words, don't we?"

I'm not reading anything else, because that wank is 7 years old, but that was a great line lmao

Actually, when you hit the "fulfill assignment" button, it just autofills the recip and exchange for you. You can then fill anything you want for the rest. So if your recip asked for MASH, Orphan Black, and Guardians of the Galaxy (Comics) you could click the link and then post a Fallen London fic and the archive wouldn't care. And unless someone complains to the mods, they won't be checking the posted fics against the assignments either.

That said, OP still shouldn't do it imho, but a misguided author wouldn't get slammed by the archive and shouldn't get slammed by the mods

Or did you have to shoot yourself up to get that/lose it?

The Yuletide fic is a better example of wook's wankiness, imo. The writer here outright says in their meta post that they ignored wook's prompts and likes/dislikes. While wook could have been more gracious, this fic is really ... out there ... as a response to the prompts.

If I asked for Harry Potter smut and I got clones with paper-thin worldbuilding, no canonical inspiration that I can see, and characterization that didn't resemble the characters I read at all, I wouldn't comment.

If they were trying to pass the letter off as legit, maybe.

It's just that if people are theoretically motivated by small-fandom love, rather than the YT publicity

If people were theoretically motivated by small-fandom love, they'd be doing it outside of Yuletide and most people don't, NYR or not. They just don't.

What does the color of your pubic hair have to do with anything?

Re: People You'd Default On

(Anonymous) 2014-10-20 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, I can only extrapolate the prompt from the author's comments in their meta post, but this fic seems to be Untherius levels of not-what-recip-requested. The recip wanted Harry/Draco, canon characterization, and voyeurism, and the writer gave them clone!Harry, clone!Draco, no romance that I can see, and barely even enough sex to justify the NC-17 rating they gave it? 'Cuz, dude.

Re: Commenting on Letters You Like?

I did this just to squee about the characters they wanted, and the person seemed really pleased.

Re: Signing up later and your reasons

(Anonymous) 2014-10-20 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
I'm still trying to decide whether I want to commit to signing up. I'm already working on a treat for someone and it's going to be quite long. If I sign up and get the person I'm planning the treat for, that would be fantastic. If I got someone else, though, I'd need to spend time doing their request justice, so I'm dithering.
