The Dirty Energy Source

Do you want to make a spreadsheet about spreadsheets?
Do you still need to figure out what two other fandoms you should request beside the only one you really want fic for?
Or are you trolling ALL the letter posts for placeholders, just so you can write those people some nice, dry coal?

We want to know all about it.

NA This will be amazing, I'll be cheering you on, coalie. But ngl, I will be super disappointed if you actually write 500 drabbles and none of them are for me.

It's early to ask about pinch hitting, but for those who sign up to write a pinch hit, will the recipient know that their gift was a pinched one?

(Need to ensure lowered expectations, you know?)

Re: Letters you want to see!

Who the heck are all these people requesting The Secret History and why aren't they posting letters? (I've only seen one, and there are 5 requests so far.)

Re: an000b3 question

Depends on the recipient.

They'll know:

-if they're on the pinch hit list too
-if they see their assignment discussed here, or in a similar place, as having gone to pinch hit.

They will not receive any automatic notification that they were defaulted on.

From the coalie above you it sounds like the system is eating things. If I were you I wouldn't worry, though - plan to treat them, because in the worst case scenario you'll still have written a fic.

(Anonymous) 2014-10-20 10:01 am (UTC)(link)
I can't believe people have argued it's different enough from the source material that it should be allowed.

Re: an000b3 question

Plus if its their only fic and it's posted after the deadline, it's obviously a PH.

(Anonymous) 2014-10-20 10:06 am (UTC)(link)
I can't remember any lengthly kind of debate about it. I think there may have been only one post to formally challenge the inclusion. I don't if there was something in the evidence post.

(Anonymous) 2014-10-20 10:08 am (UTC)(link)
IKR? The thing is, no one really complained. IIRC, someone said "why is SMC allowed?" and then two people (not mods) said Crystal was a ~different beast or whatever. And that was it. Not that I care much about it being eligible--it's not ruining my Yuletide!!11!11!--but it's kinda ridiculous.

I'm the coalie above, I don't think the system is eating anything. If the fandom is requested at the time the summary was generated, it's going to appear on it.
The summary is just taking longer and longer to generate and the task that creates it, stopped entirely at least once last year, but the summary always gave an accurate summary of the last generated state.

Now I rly want a Rayearth remake. Magic Knight Rayearth: Cephiro! It would be loyal to the manga (so, different from the first anime) AND it would have a new name, so, you know, GREAT YULETIDE FANDOM!

You can also state in the author's note how happy you were to snag this very interesting pinch hit.

You of course shouldn't state that recipient should lower their expectations due to that.

(Many pinch hits, even after deadline are of no lower quality than the rest of the fic.)

(Anonymous) 2014-10-20 10:13 am (UTC)(link)
There was a ~reasonably~ convincing post on the evidence post. I freely admit to knowing nothing, but they argued that it diverged from the old after the first couple of eps etc, and that some of the character arcs were different. If that's not true I guess it's a shame no one bothered to object.

I found a few of the sort that immediately causes you to plot out a story in your head. (Though half of them are kinky porn prompts that I'd have never considered even reading before, much less writing, ha.)

(Anonymous) 2014-10-20 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I looked at the challenge post at the time and briefly thought about commenting there, but... nah. Too much work.

(Anonymous) 2014-10-20 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
Is Rayearth too large for Yuletide?

Crystal is nine episodes long and about as loyal to the manga as the first anime is. The manga had several Generals dead by now, same as the first anime, Crystal has not. Manga and first anime give time and focus to the other Senshi, Crystal is straight up Usagi.

It may not be as different as the, also eligible, live action series, which also made it in and started close to manga canon as well, but it's not as slavishly close to the print matter as many other anime.

SA
Nine episodes at this point, of course.

Re: The one thing I hate about Yuletide

(Anonymous) 2014-10-20 10:34 am (UTC)(link)
I've written two. Neither of the recipients ever commented :(

Re: Signing up later and your reasons

(Anonymous) 2014-10-20 10:56 am (UTC)(link)
I have 'flu right now and I'm trying to figure out if my complete lack of Yuletide enthusiasm is just because I'm too drained to give a crap about anything or if signing up would be a horrible mistake. Hopefully a few days and some signs of other people posting letters for my fandoms will clear that up one way or another.

Re: Pros & Cons of Requesting & Offering in Same Fandom

(Anonymous) 2014-10-20 11:12 am (UTC)(link)
I've not done it before but this year I've requested and offered in 2 fandoms. One of them has zero fic in English and I'm desperate to read it but I'm also really keen on writing it. The other one has fic but it could always do with more. I'm afraid I'm not very scientific about it, but those are my reasons and I'm sticking to them :)

Re: Letters making you re-think your offers

(Anonymous) 2014-10-20 11:12 am (UTC)(link)
Your opinion coalies, http://furloughday.livejournal.com/44758.html?nojs=1
How likely is it that they are asking for any on that first fandom? And are getting matched to someone who offered the two first mentioned characters?

I'm on her flist and she's a pretty friendly and understanding person, but I think you'd need to be clear about what she *could* ask for before saying what she can't ask for.

Re: Are they requesting it or not....

(Anonymous) 2014-10-20 11:16 am (UTC)(link)
At least once last year they deleted the most recent summary and replaced it with an earlier version until it could generate again, so that could have happened too.
