The Dirty Energy Source

Do you want to make a spreadsheet about spreadsheets?
Do you still need to figure out what two other fandoms you should request beside the only one you really want fic for?
Or are you trolling ALL the letter posts for placeholders, just so you can write those people some nice, dry coal?

We want to know all about it.

What has writing your letter taught you?

Is there anything you learned about yourself while writing your letter? Patterns that emerged? Themes you began to see?

Treat Pact Check-In

Letters are up!

Is it looking like your treat pact goals will be met? Will you surpass it? Are there less requests for your fandoms than you thought, so you're worried about falling short?

How y'all doin, coalies?

I made my own spreadsheet

Of letters I like so I can keep track of them through the yuletide season.

I just don't want to deal with the craziness anymore :/

Re-reading my letter, there is a lot of perving over ladies in it. Like, a lot. ;) I'd say I learned I was a lesbian, but then I already knew. (Score!)

I need more tennis femslash letters!

I'm more open to AUs and crossovers than I originally thought.

All my requested ships have a considerable age difference. Not too surprising, I just didn't expect it to be so obvious in my requests.

If you're the letter writer I think you are, you've got me perving over some ladies I hadn't thought of, but am now excited about. And I'm not a lesbian!

Nobody I want to treat yet so far. Barely even any fandoms I know well enough to write in them. But it's still early!

This. I know it's still early, but I'm already starting to worry that no one will offer any of the fandoms I'm capable of writing in.

All but one of my requests are for historical fandoms. I never would have described myself as being into historical fic specifically, but... apparently I am!

I've got two or three on my list already, but the count is rising

You know, that's not such a bad idea.

Current goal: Well, I've found 3 letters that interest me so far, and we're not even at signups yet! So we'll see if this is a year where my ambition matches my attention span, or if it's all a pipe dream. One can hope.

I'm surprisingly open about things. Also I kinda suck at specific prompts beyond just "What happened with x?" And I apparently like 5+1s

Crossovers vs. Fusions

(Anonymous) 2014-10-18 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
I've found a pattern in letters and I'm not sure if it's a new fandom vernacular thing or a people-not-understanding-what-they're-saying thing.

To me, crossovers have always been characters from Fandom A and Fandom B meet and interact. Eg, The Winchesters try to exorcise Hogwarts. Fusions are when characters from Fandom A replace those in Fandom B. Eg, Harry and Draco are brothers who save people and kill things.

Some people use "crossovers" when they mean fusions in their letter and vice versa. Is this a general change in fandom linguistics or are people making rookie mistakes that could bite them in the ass?

Repeating letter content

(Anonymous) 2014-10-18 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
How much of your letter do you guys think is reasonable/acceptable to re-use from a previous year? For example, DNW lists? My likes? Any prompts?

My instinct is that I don't really need to rewrite all this stuff, except for adding/taking out anything to do with particular canons, or obviously if my tastes for a particular thing have changed?

I'm not repeating any fandom requests this year so that's obviously all being written from scratch, but if I was?

(Yes, I know I'm thinking about this way too hard and should just write the letter already. Still!)

still confused about "any"

(Anonymous) 2014-10-18 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
If someone requests "any" characters and I offer to write characters A, B, C, can I be matched to write for that person? Or are only people who offer to write "any" matched to someone who requests "any"?

Because I see people requesting "any" when they clearly aren't particularly interested in some of the nominated characters and it worries me a bit. I don't want to end up writing for someone who has no real interest in receiving fic for the characters I can write.

If they were nommed, you'll probably find someone. I'm waiting for my fandoms to crop up, as well. Brave heart, nonnie!

Re: Repeating letter content

(Anonymous) 2014-10-18 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
I c&p'd a lot of general things and even one fandom section for a fandom I also requested last year, but didn't receive fic for. I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

Re: What has writing your letter taught you?

(Anonymous) 2014-10-18 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
I have a thing about identity porn and power dynamics. I also need to be more careful about discussing characters separately in addition to whatever dynamic I enjoy them in.

Re: still confused about "any"

(Anonymous) 2014-10-18 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Yes you can match to them. And then you can write them fic about A, B, and/or C, or any of the other characters.

Because I see people requesting "any" when they clearly aren't particularly interested in some of the nominated characters and it worries me a bit.

Yes, this is the downfall of both offering and requesting any. If it's a major worry for you, steal prompt ideas from someone's letter who DOES want A, B, and/or C, or don't offer the fandom at all.

So far there aren't letters up for any of the fandoms I was planning on offering, but I'd like to increase to 4 anyway. I found out I won't be going home for any upcoming holidays/birthdays/etc. after all and I've got to kill those long weekends somehow.
