"Did you really think I would?" C asked. "Come flying, I mean?"

N laughed. "Of course not! I never believed all that, you know. I just thought it would amuse you to remember."

She felt a funny twinge in her chest. As a child, she hadn't believed C's claims that she could do magic. But she'd almost believed that C was magic - wonderful and original and strange.
