Thinking about doing Ship Swap for the first time. Does anyone here have any past experience with the exchange? (Is it fun? Hard to be matched if you request something truly rare? Worth it in terms of readers/comments? Etc.)

I did it for the first time last year and found it really enjoyable. I matched easily enough and my comment/kudos are about the same as my fics with similar rarepair status. I'd recommend it.

DA Wondering about it, too. I did rarepair last year and had a good experience. Any difference between shipswap and rarepair other than the time of year?

I've found the ShipSwap mod to be reliable and good about email contact, etc.

I think ShipSwap and Rare Pair have slightly different policies about RPF and crossovers?

Well that's fine, I'm not really interested in rpf or crossovers so the rules can be whatever. :D I do like ship-oriented multifandom exchanges... like yuletide except guaranteed shipfic. I enjoy gen, too, but sometimes I just want my otp damnit. I think that's why I went for rarepair last year and skipped notprimetime and fic-mountain.

Rarepair runs later in the year so there's room for both in my schedule yay. (Although I'm thinking about doing that old fandoms fest, too, which I think should be starting soon...) Anyway, time to go nominate all the femslash!

From what I saw when I checked out the nominations, shipswap is full of MCU fans trying to get their stupid crossover pairs nominated.

Half the fun of Ship Swap is that it's the one game in town that allows crossovers. No guarantee anyone will write it for you, but why not try your luck? /not an MCU fan

There's a ton of other fandoms that have been nominated but not approved yet, though, so they're not showing up on the tag set. (Source: my noms, my dentist's noms, various friends' noms.) For whatever reason the mods are going really slow on other fandoms, but Marvel-related ones are getting approved ASAP.

Yeah, I had two of my fandoms approved right away (not Marvel-related), but the third has been sitting there for a couple of days now.

In shipswap you only need to request/offer one pairing per fandom (in rarepairfest you needed two IIRC).

I was wondering about the matching, myself. With that level of granularity, does matching get hard? I'm also not really into any megafandoms, just smaller stuff, so that seems like it'd make it really difficult...

I was lucky I had one offer on my four yuletide fandoms. Not trying my luck with the even more difficult ship market.

You can request rare ships in bigger fandoms, though.

Anyone know how long it takes for noms to be approved? I've had mine in since the very beginning (three days ago), and one of my fandoms continues to languish. It's verifiable with the easiest of Googles that the characters in the two ships I nommed (A/B and A/C) are all in the TV show, and neither ship has any fic on AO3 (I haven't checked FFN, but I'm sure there isn't any there either).

I know there's no reason to rush, but it's itching at the back of my neck, lol.

I also nommed mine 3 days ago, and one fandom is still waiting to be approved.

Noms appear to the mod/approver at random (it's not by the order the noms are made), so they might not have seen it at all yet. One of mine from three days ago is also still at ?!, while all of the ones from yesterday are clear.

I just finished my noms about an hour ago and two of my fandoms have already been approved but not the other two. Seems like it's all over the place.
