Not the OP here, but I'm looking for example letters of that kind, that give prompts for the requested, nominated characters and optional, non-pushy just-in-case prompts that might include unnominated characters.
I like this idea but I am wondering what it looks like in an actual letter. To quote:

"I'm happy with fic with A, B, C and D, but you can also write me about E,F,G or H." (NOT "I want EFGH, but only ABCD are in the tagset.")

I think that's a fine way to phrase it. "I chose A and B for ease of matching, but I also love A's relationship with C and E&F's shenanigans picking widgets is one of my favorite parts of canon, and I've got such a crush on H."

I'm sorry. On the one hand, it seems like it may have been an honest mistake. On the other hand, it's a lot easier for us if we work with what we're given and don't accept this kind of request at this stage. The characters were nominated under Discworld; Discworld is ineligible. Perhaps next year?

Especially given how much they whined about the "unfairness" of other fandoms being able to split their canons, when it turns out they fucked up their own nomination and could have done exactly what they were complaining about not being allowed to do, they just didn't do it.

Because there are a huge number of morons involved in this exchange. We have seen overwhelming evidence of that today.

A short appeals period

I would love it if there was a short appeals period - maybe one or two days - in which mods and participants worked together after the tagset was revealed in order to resolve any honest mistakes/misunderstanding.

Chinese Actor RPF could easily be changed into [movie] RPF, I believe. Monstrous Regiment could easily be separated out on its own. Other changes like these - where the nominator had a small, honest misunderstanding - could be handled with little effort from the mods.

This would, I feel, be in the spirit of Yuletide. Why keep out a clearly eligible fandom? I don't think such an appeals period would be abused, if it was made clear that it was for small things.

That would be great! As long as it was clear that the period was for clearing up nominations that have (in some form) been made and not adding completely new ones I don't see a downside.

To be less mysterious, OP is linking to a thread in the Dreamwidth challenge post, in which an anonymous person challenged the inclusion of "First Out Gay Player on an Active Roster" in NFL RPF and said it shouldn't be allowed if Clyde Tombaugh wasn't allowed in Epic Rap Battles.

OP links to the mod decision, which is to remove the NFL RPF nomination.

One of my requests has no fic. Another only has a couple fics that I wrote. I highly doubt that I'll get either of those for Yuletide but one never knows!

I went to the tags post to complain about the Simon Snow nomination, but someone already did and they're not changing it. It seems really weird to me that they're letting in a nomination for a canon that doesn't exist. Fangirl exists, Carry On exists, but the Simon Snow series doesn't.

Disagree. There are plenty of fiction-within-fictions that count as fandoms. Eg: the manga inside gekkan shoujo nozaki-kun

What's your offer system?

I go through the tag set and find everything I know and am interested in. Then, I take that list and whittle it down to things I currently have easy access to - that usually leaves me with roughly 20 fandoms. When letters come out I dig through all the ones with those fandoms on my list to get a general vibe of what people are asking for, and whittle it down even more. If there's still too many, then I sit and debate deep issues, like 'Requester Squee Levels', 'Personal Squee Levels', 'Size of Canon Consumption', 'Size of Fandom', and 'Could it be Wanky'. Unless the answers are all 'High', 'High', 'Small/Moderate', 'Small/Moderate', and 'I Hope So' then it doesn't pass the bar.

I nominated a fandom, but having (finally) written my letter I've decided not to actually request it - I realised I couldn't actually think of any prompts I was excited about. Anybody else changed their minds about requests or offers so far this season?

I might give up one fandom I nommed in case another related fandom from same umbrella doesn't pass. Not that I don't want fic in it, but my desires there are rather specific, plus I nommed A,B,C,D and while I wouldn't mind seeing all four in same fic, it would take a lot of work, and I only have concrete ideas for A+/B, A/+C or B/+D. Actually, A+D or C+D interacting (or even shipped) would be interesting, but I have no prompt for author (except one for C+D I saw in fic in non-English language, but it's cracky). And they'd need it, because almost all of these combos require serious canon divergence. In "risky" fandom, I at least have one 100% canon-compliant request, and I might want the fic in it slightly more than spare fandom.

I've never seen the anime but I'm curious as to how they translated plots based on sex and rape and other fun stuff like that into a pg-13 anime and accomplished it in such a way that "they are not considered significantly different canons".

Letter writing woes

Bleh, I don't remember letter writing being this hard before. Everything I write sounds! over! enthusiastic! about! everything! (to compensate for sounding overly judgy before).

And I can't seem to phrase my prompts in an understandble way. Also, I have like 15 prompts for one fandom and struggle to come up with more than 2 for another.

And I'd love to have a system for how I phrase my prompts but for one fandom the prompts turned into mini-essays while for another it's just a bunch of questions and for a third all the prompts are super short.

I am signing up with my main account and two dentists. However, all my DNWs are the same (duh) and I'm wondering how to make it sound different each time I write them out in a letter.

Put one list in alphabetical order. Put the other list in order from "least extreme" to "most extreme."

Use synonyms. On one, you might list:

Scat
Piss
Vomit

On another you might list:

Scat/Watersports/Emetophilia

Secret Wars

Did anyone nominate any titles that got rejected? Planet Hulk was the only one I saw in the tagset that said "Secret Wars", so I'm curious since it seemed like a lot of people had concerns about it. I don't know a lot about comics so I don't know if there are other Secret Wars things that don't say "Secret Wars" specifically.

Nope, there aren't as many as I thought we'd see considering all the hullabaloo last month. The only other Secret Wars limited run I see in the tagset is 1872. Plus there are ongoing comics, like Silk and Ms. Marvel, which are connected to the event through their Last Days issues -- not to get into that whole thing again, because I'm sick and tired of it by this point.
