Perhaps not in the (in)famous cases, but I am sure, every year someone does get that fic for a character that wasn't nominated, that crossover with a too big to yuletide fandom or a thinly veiled Steve/Tony fic. But it happens quietly and in the shadows, so it fails to hit the wank comms.
