When people say they put "check out my letter link" in their Optional Details, are they putting the link there too, or is the letter link field good enough? I've never been a pinch hitter, so I don't know if it matters.

For those who have multiple media types for a fandom and no clear differentiation from them, how do you determine which (if there is any) form of the media a recipient would prefer?

I am looking over some of the anime and manga offerings and there's a couple of fandoms based off of visual novels/BL games, which would give them multiple endings. There is also an anime based on it. The anime wouldn't give all the paths and endings, just one, and most likely also be very soft on the explicit shipping/porn aspect of it.

So, the anime itself isn't all inclusive of the game experience.

When I'm looking at letters, a lot of the time there's no clear distinction on which media they want. VN or anime or manga? Is a fic written in any of them fine? Do they have a preference for one?

Why isn't it stated in your letter? It would save me a whole lot of headache (and having to default) to know ahead of time that you'd prefer the game, because I'm a fan of the anime.

What irks me about the yumadrin post is the last paragraph. That makes it read very much like the whole thing is not a gift for the requester, because they wouldn't need links to the source, but about getting other eyes on the stories.

I wish the admin comm would change their journal style to one that makes it easier to parse between text and links. The colors used in their current theme look identical to me and it takes forever to find the link I need.

Someone other than me requested the small fandom of my dreams!!! I'm so thrilled!! There are only 2 characters nominated too, so they probably also requested my OTP. For some reason, the filters for things like characters are not showing up for me on fanfiction.net Does my browser have to be updated to a certain number? Or do I now have to click a certain link? (it's been awhile since I've used ff.net) Thanks!

There's usually a big nice button called Filters in the middle above the stories when you have clicked on a fandom. If that button doesn't do anything, check that you are allowing FFN to run scripts.

At this point, I feel like Yuletide is really well established and people know what it is and how to behave etc.

But JFC, some of those letters.

Surely there can be some regulation in the future to manage ridiculous requests/letters full of word salad? Because I know if I get paired to write for someone and their letter is indecipherable, it's going to suck for me, and it's going to suck for my recipient.

Is there currently a "WTF is this?" clause? I don't want to default if I don't have to, but...yeesh.

(I also realize I'm probably worrying about something that will work out just fine, but the number of folks I've seen saying "if that's a request, I'm removing my offer for $thing" a LOT.)

Dear person I treated last year:

I wanted to treat you again with more porn, because it's such a fun pairing to write, but you made it impossible with the characters you nominated. And I could do it anyway, sure, but the way you talk about the fandom in your letter makes it feel unwelcome. So now I'm thinking maybe you didn't like the treat I wrote you last year as much asy ou said, and I am disappoint. More porn for somebody else, I guess, but I really would have loved to revisit that fandom.

(I'm not saying which fandom because I have written the only fic in existence for it so it would out my whining immediately. And hey, people want what they want, it's cool. I'm just sad.)

They probably did like it, they just don't want it this year. You could leave a anon comment asking if they'd like treast based on previous years requests? But honestly it just sounds like they want something new/different this year and I highly doubt they're thinking about you or your treat.

Disappointments

Between people bashing the original movie and requesting a character who only showed up on the ineligible TV series, I'm so disappointed by all the Terminator Genisys requests. Especially because I was excited to treat anyone asking for John/Kyle (yay for twisted time-travel incest!), but no one has asked for it :(

There is an otherwise great letter where I genuinely can't tell if they are asking for a plotty shipfic or for a gen plus friendship.

Changing authors on gifts

So I remember from past discussions that you can change the author on a fic to another account by adding that account as a second author, then removing the first author. What I can't remember is, can you do this with giftfics before authors are revealed, and still have the mods count the original author account as having completed its assignment? So that you'd never have the initial account show up publicly as the author of that fic.
