I don't know - I'd say writing a story that can be appreciated on two different levels in that way is a sign of fantastic writing. Laughing at someone enjoying their gift in an un-ironic way, when they got exactly what they asked for, seems like a dick move to me.

But I suppose that's what coal is for: letting our inner assholes out to play in an environment where no one needs to see it unless they opted-in to see the bitter, bitchy, dark side of human nature.
