A list of color-codes for what kinks you're asking for in Yuletide, so you don't make your writer feel bad by spelling things out clearly. Or whatever.
They're getting some very polite disagreement in the comments and some serious eye-rolling over at FFA.
I thought about replying in namespace, long and serious -- but then I saw the huge picture she plastered of herself in the comments and... I realized that there's no point.
Yes, haha, I thought it was funny how all the comments say:
"This is a very interesting list."
I mostly read this as: "We've had this wank about rating/categorizing kinks about a million and five times, and the bottom line has always been that you can't generalize these things, but I'm too polite to say it more explicitly than this."
What I'm wondering: When she writes "The mods have kindly suggested that I might give you this link" - did the mods really ASK her to post this? Surely they must be aware of all the discussions about likes/DNWs and kinks that have happened in the context of Yuletide? Like, just last year with the "how to phrase your DNWs in your letter" discussion?
I think she contacted the mods and actually asked them to link to her idiotic list from the FAQ/sign-up/everywhere. She seems arrogant enough for that, not to mention full of herself. And their response was probably "uh no, but go ahead and post it to the comm if you want" which she misinterpreted as a glowing suggestion.
"Um ... what is ODAO? I can't seem to find a meaning for it anywhere, (except the One Direction community, and I have a feeling that's not what you're aiming at)"
Yeeeah, that's why I didn't bother commenting. If you're involved enough in Yuletide to be posting kink lists for people to use (ugh), then you should know that, come on. And if you don't, how hard is it to just fucking google it?!
ODAO is typical anon meme language, though. To be honest, while I've been doing exchanges for way longer, I've learnt a lot exchange slang from FFA, which I've started following only a few months ago, and Coal, the most recently. ODAO in faqs and rules is usually spelled 'optional details are optional'.
Yeah, I remember confusedly googling ODAO after I started regularly reading Coal. Even though I'd been doing Yuletide for years and had indeed ODAO before. :)
It is arrogant to post a guide to a community without seeming to know anything about that community. I'm not getting the impression she's ever been involved in Yuletide before.
