Is it Yuletide yet?
*yawns and stretches*
happy new YT season, coalies!
Looks like this year everything will happen a lot sooner. But don't worry, the best time to think about yt gifts is when your still sitting at the beach or around a pool with a cold cocktail in your hand... right?

(Anonymous) 2016-09-04 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)If a version of Sherlock Holmes comes out that is distinctly different from the megafandoms, I'm cool with it getting in. And yeah, it's good that you can't just nominate a super popular actor just because they're in a new movie. But if I like a rare character in a popular fandom like, say, Teen Wolf, I can't nominate them just because they're rare. Even if they're only in one episode, I can't nominate that episode separately just because it's not technically tagged 1000 times. With RPF, there really is no way of excluding rare characters from big fandoms like there is with other fandoms, so you can nom a rare character in your big active fandom by chopping the fandom into smaller parts in a way that fans of movies/TV shows/etc cannot. That's where RPF rules are unfair. Character eligibility rules are sometimes needed, but FANDOM eligibility rules should always come into play too.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-04 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)I don't give a shit about hockey, but once the horse has bolted it's impossible to go back and reclassify fics by team. It's the same way movie/book franchises which can be separated by installment on AO3 but can't on FFN don't have to count the FFN numbers, but have a lower limit on AO3. (That's still a thing, right? I haven't seen that change.) Sometimes tagging/organising sins of the past can't be addressed in the present.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-05 12:32 am (UTC)(link)Maybe anime & manga don't belong in Yuletide.
This wank is so old and tired. There's always something that doesn't belong in Yuletide added to the list every couple of years. The anti- culture movement you're pushing predates the current Tumblr associations.
You want to know how you personally make RPF not exist in Yuletide? Don't request or offer it. It's now gone, it can't touch you. You don't have to click on any of the fics that are made in an RPF fandom.
RPF, comics, anime, commericals, nor music videos take anything away from what you're promised by the Yuletide rules: to give and get a fic.
Thinking about fandoms you aren't even in is a waste of your life. Think about the fandoms you like instead.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-05 01:10 am (UTC)(link)can you try again without resorting to pulling a categorical numeric sorting of fandom? the only thing required to be in yuletide is a small fandom. medium and big fandoms are out.
are you really more pressed at rpf, a type of fandom that has existed since before the bible got invented or homer wrote the illiad, than stuff like 5 minute fandoms being included in yuletide?
Re: Straw(man) Poll
(Anonymous) 2016-09-05 01:26 am (UTC)(link)Unless it's RPF, in which case any rare character can get in, big fandom or no!
I've got no problem with RPF as a whole but if y'all can't find a way to ensure only SMALL FANDOMS get in, not just rare characters, you don't belong in Yuletide. There are a million other exchanges.
Re: Straw(man) Poll
(Anonymous) 2016-09-05 02:12 am (UTC)(link)If you are a fan of Jensen Ackles and want RPF of him, you are not in Ten Inch Hero fandom or Devour fandom. (Yes, I'm ashamed I have both those movie titles at my fingertips.) Jensen Ackles is your fandom. You might want those particular sets of *co stars* interacting with him, and it's thus helpful to group it that way to populate a tag set, but that isn't your fandom.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-05 02:24 am (UTC)(link)I want certain episodes to be divorced from the show they're from so I can request them even though the show itself is from a megafandom.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-05 02:36 am (UTC)(link)And before you hop in with your tired rebuttle, Yuletide isn't a FPF exchange. It's a small fandom exchange. Jensen Ackles isn't a small fandom, he's out. 7th Century Monks feat. Shi Yung is.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-05 01:53 am (UTC)(link)Okay? I have no position on that one way or the other. I do have a position that this isn't a *hockey* problem, as sub thread OP kept insisting. We have to take flow on effects of proposals into account. For rules to be perceived as fair they have to be seen to be applied as consistently as possible across the board.
