Pollute the Air

Did your favorite fandom get rejected because it was one fic over the limit?
Have you just fallen in love with a new fandom the day after nominations ended?
Or are you morbane?

Looking for canons to offer

Anyone have any book canons that one could get through fairly quickly (so preferably no multiple-book series) with femslashy potential/that they're going to request f/f for?

Code Name Verity! It pulled quite a few f/f fics for Yuletide the last couple years.

As a small warning, CNV might not be something you want to read fast because it's very hard to read. It's partially about a spy who is captured and brutally tortured by the Nazis who are hoping to get her to give up Allied secrets. It is a completely amazing book and I do highly recommend it, but quick femslash fluff material it is not!

ayrt

Ooh, yeah, that's a fair point. I was thinking "quick to read" in terms of it being YA and not super long, but it is definitely not light and fluffy.

Does any of the femslash women die in Code Name Verity? I've been recced the book but I can never seem to find the answer to that question.

Yes.

Yes and in the most heartbreaking way possible. Feels like I sobbed for about three weeks. It's an incredible book but nothing's affected me that much since - ????? EVER I THINK.

There's a sort of sequel, Rose Under Fire (some returning characters but the lead is new) which is also incredible but set mostly in a concentration camp where women are being experimented. Sooo that's not exactly a fun read either.

Code Name Verity - Elizabeth Wein

Our Mutual Friend - Charles Dickens

Imperial Radch Series - Ann Leckie (it's a series, but only 2 books, and I would expect there might be requests based only on the first book - I haven't read the second)

The Friendly Young Ladies - Mary Renault

Purposes of Love - Mary Renault

Both of those have canon femslash. Return to Night by the same author also has femslashy subtext and I know at least a couple of people who will probably request that pairing (Hilary/Lisa).

Tipping the Velvet - Sarah Waters (2)

I'm not the nominator and won't be requesting, but Terry Pratchett's Monstrous Regiment made it in and is almost certainly going to be femslash requests.

The School for Good and Evil - Soman Chainani

YA, and while there's a second book it's pretty well stand alone with just the first book. Femslash is basically canon. I didn't nominate it, but I'm thrilled to see it's in.

Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle-Stop Cafe! I successfully got the book version in (with canon femslash) instead of the movie version (where they make Ruth in love with Idgie's brother instead of Idgie). If you were to write me Ruth/Idgie I would love you forever.

Also Monstrous Regiment!

Chasing Charlie Duskin - Cath Crowley.

Be aware that it's only available in Australia, though.

There are like 200 books, but each one is light and easy and you can get through one in an hour or so: The Babysitters Club by Ann M Martin.

There are a few arcs through the series, especially later on, but the books definitely don't need to be read in order if you just want to get a grip on the characters and the feeling of the BSC in general. Endless, endless f/f possibilities.
