I have a huge deadline coming up on Thursday for school, so I'm really hoping they don't open the tagset until Thursday afternoon (California time) or later. I want to be able to squee with everyone when it goes live, and put my letters on the letter post, and everything else! I dnw to be sadly late to the party.

I wrote a treat for a friend in another exchange and I haven't uploaded it yet because I honestly don't think it's very good. But it's good enough to make my friend happy, probably. But I'm sure I'm going to be embarrassed of it after reveals. But I worked so hard at finishing it! And so on.

No, because the mods were still taking fandom size into account. The hockey RPF thing was because they allowed the loophole of nominating more specific segments of the fandom as fandoms in themselves. (Unless CW RPF or Supernatural RPF could break down into narrower, more specific segments that are rare enough for Yuletide?)

welp this spreadsheet made me realize that someone from the roleplay side of dreamwidth that i definitely want to avoid is an active yuletide treater

i won't out them because there probably aren't many dwrpers here, but this person has a habit of escalating minor ic conflict into a huge deal icly and oocly and basically ruining plots because no one wants to deal with their character's excessive tantrum and their ooc whining about how hard done by their poor character is

prompt field vs letter

I hope people start using the prompt field more. Last couple of years, half my bookmarked prompts that I was going to write for vanished by the time I had time on my hands for nyr because they were hosted on outside places like TRIPOD or they had deleted their LJ. But when I went back to check the actual AO3 prompt list, all they had was a link back to their deleted/vanished site and no other details except for fandom and characters.

For people who are extremely slow treaters like me, pleaase have a bit more info.

I was reading the yuletide thread on the latest ffa post about the person who doesn't give a flying fuck about what their recipient writes because they're only in it to write stories and not read stories and they're picky as shit. If that's the case with anyone here for the love of all that's holy just pinch hit or treat. Don't sign up.

lol putting "i'm picky as shit and probably won't like anything you write" in your letter is such a dick move. i do yuletide to write things, too, and getting a fic to read is just a bonus (if i like it, awesome! if not, oh well! though i actually am very easy to please), but there's no need to be an asshole about it. if you're not going to like what your writer gives you anyway, what the hell is the point of telling them that ahead of time?

Fic request for dark canon

This year I find that I am more interested in canon darker than my usual fare (dystopia, madness, horror, etc) and I find it harder to give promts because I am inexperienced. I am aware that definition of dark fic is potentially as confusing as world building and I really don't want to frustrate my writer and myself. I would like to ask what coalies here think the definition of dark fics may include so I can give better prompts.

If your canon is already dark, you can say you'd like fic that matches it in tone, and then give slightly clearer instructions as suits - ie how graphic the violence can be, what particular story or character points you like or think are important. Be clear about what you definitely don't want, though.

Requesting a half-consumed canon

I am halfway through a TV series. I really like the dynamic between two characters, so I'm thinking of requesting them together.

How does _coal feel about requesters who say, 'I haven't read all of this/ watched all of this/ played all of this, but I want...'?

I watch TV very slowly, so I'm not sure I'll have time to finish the series before the end of sign-ups.

For me it depends. If it's a long series and you're halfway through, that's more likely to give me enough to work with than if the canon is short or if you've barely made a chip in it.

Also, I pretty much expect it with most comic fandoms. Most people will have read all of the series they've nominated, but may or may not know about any canon that's affected the characters since or outside of that series.

It was less hoping he'd get nominated and more "If he gets nominated, I'll actually watch the show so I can write someone a treat," but Edwin Stillwell, from Chicago PD.

He wasn't nominated for that show, so that's less homework for me!
