Rachel Bailey and Gill Murray from Scott & Bailey! Oh man, coalie. If you like lady detectives, here's the mentor-mentee relationship for you.

Gill Murray, workaholic brilliant ambitious Detective Chief Inspector, uncompromising, as hard on herself as on the rest of her team, also known as Godzilla (only accidentally to her face). Rachel Bailey, Detective Constable in Gill's syndicate, naturally talented copper, totally fucked up in her personal life, wants to grow up to be Gill, also known as Sherlock (no really).

The canon includes Gill going to higher-ups in defence of Rachel and bending or considering bending her own personal rules, Rachel's utter terror of fucking up so badly that Gill will give up on her, Rachel earning and whimpering for Gill's respect, delightful moments where the teaching relationship shades into personal disclosures that lead to awkward retreats, genuine fondness and pats from Gill, and definitely huge amounts of loyalty and appreciation both ways.

They're shipped together, and I love it, but there's great stuff in canon and to be done in fic about their relationship platonically too.

It's a British tv show just about finished its fourth series, so there are, mmm, 28 eps.
