No idea. I'm not sure if anyone's ever brought it up as an option, or if the mods have discussed it among themselves? Maybe someone should float the idea in chat.

Most likely to stop the non-treat crowd (aka most of the participants) from complaining about someone stealing their thunder by writing their assignment early.

Basically, it's to encourage focus on assignments-- hence letters remain firmly "unofficial"
