Why, oh why, do people put "OOC" in their DNWs?

I'm tempted to do so, mostly because the last exchange fic I got was wildly, offensively OOC.

Did the writer recognize their fic as OOC, though? That's the problem with putting something like OOC in your DNWs - writers don't think that's what they're doing.

I don't think so, they seemed pretty unaware of most things. But since they took the time to lovingly trash a character who is pretty much the only 'good' guy of the lot, I think they knew exactly what they were doing.
