The Dirty Energy Source

Do you want to make a spreadsheet about spreadsheets?
Do you still need to figure out what two other fandoms you should request beside the only one you really want fic for?
Or are you trolling ALL the letter posts for placeholders, just so you can write those people some nice, dry coal?

We want to know all about it.

After signups close, we will post a Yuletide RPF OPT-IN post on Yuletide, with a webform for easy data collection. Those who wish to allow themselves to be included in any potential Yuletide RPF fic will fill out the form and submit it. This form will remain open until Sunday 2nd November.

The list of people who have opted-in to Yuletide RPF will be made publicly available. Anyone wishing to write in the Yuletide RPF fandom - whether for their assignment or as a treat - is bound by this list.

Wow. "You literally will not be able to know the character set you are offering to write until after you have offered the fandom, and then you are bound to that character set." Yeah, that'll go well.

Isn't that how they do it every year? Though anyone requesting or offering in that 'fandom' deserves what they get, imo. What a waste. (Unless it's spreadsheet vs. spreadsheet, but that would go into anthropomorphic anyway.)

If you're so up your own ass you're writing Yuletide RPF you kind of deserve what you get.

Makes requests a bit difficult, too. It would make sense if the opt-in list had gone up a week or two ago and had transferred to the tag list when it opened. Either nobody thought of that, or they just forgot to do it.

Or even if they just made the post now, so people would have some idea going in if anyone they'd want to read or write about will be included. The way they have it now it could end up with everyone who picks it as a fandom wasting a slot and not realizing it until that's too late to change if no one opts in (I know that's unlikely, but it is possible).

To be honest, the whole thing sort of confuses me. I've always had the impression that it was based mostly off of chat? If so, you can sign into chat under any handle, there's no reason you have to use your AO3 or LJ name, so wouldn't it make more sense to opt-in chat names? Or am I missing something?

I would assume that you will be able to put in other handles that you may be known by? But they want to be able to link it to known accounts/participants in some way other than just chat handles so that someone isn't like "Oh yes, I am totally heavensqueen or TheColurClear, pls to write fic about how I am teh Devil and am gonna ruin Yuletide 4 evah!

I would guess that the idea is that people can opt in with a better idea of what they might be getting themselves in for, since they can see the requests first and not be like "Oh man I did not sign up to be part of a chat orgy D:"

Last year they let people opt in to different ratings, but if that was overly complicated, and maybe this year they decided not to and it will be all or nothing? In which case, seeing requests first makes more sense?

This is all pure speculation on my part!

Making it so that you can't request specific individuals in #Yuletide RPF probably has something to do with last year when two coalies socked up to request porn about the mods.

I thought that was why they did the ratings thing last year, but yeah, I remember those requests...

I don't think ratings are the answer either tbh. If people are determined to troll they could still write or request a fic with character death or something. I think banning socks was probably the best way to handle it. If people want to write or request trollfic then let them do it on their actual account so I can make fun of them.

Ain't never gonna get rid of socks though! They were already banned, anyway - I think they're just trying to make a show of being stricter this year.

They weren't actually banned before, just frowned upon.

But yeah, I think they just added the rule this year to prevent troll requests. Good faith socks don't have much to fear.
