The Dirty Energy Source

Do you want to make a spreadsheet about spreadsheets?
Do you still need to figure out what two other fandoms you should request beside the only one you really want fic for?
Or are you trolling ALL the letter posts for placeholders, just so you can write those people some nice, dry coal?

We want to know all about it.

Has everyone gone bonkers this years?

There are so many letters that spoil all the fandoms I would like to write about.

Fandom 1: One letter of my fandom enemy (they wrote me coal some past yt) one letter from a person who only wants character C, either shipped with character A or D, while I only ship C/B

Fandom 2: A/B are almost canon, about 5 letters requesting A/B, and two letters totally hating the idea of A/B, with my luck I get assigned to one of those two

Fandom 3: I ship A/B, everyone just wants A/C

Fandom 4: A/B or C/D, and I only have shippy feelings for B/D or A/C

What the hell am I supposed to offer???

Fandoms 1 or 2. If you get someone whose letter you disagree with - ODAO or default.

Fandom 1: C and B unless your enemy is requesting them. If they are you might want to avoid the fandom all together. If you match on the person only requesting C just give them a gen fic about C. If they wanted C/A and C/D they should have requested the other characters.

Fandom 2: A and B. If someone isn't into A/B the chances they request both characters are low. You'll have to write A gen, B gen or A/B.

Fandom 3: A and B. Same deal as Fandom 2. You'll have to write gen about one of the two characters or the pairing.

Fandom 3: B and D or A and C. Basically you don't want any combo where you could potentially be matched on A/B or C/D.

It's bad enough that I always end up getting gen fic, but if I have to write gen too, you could just kill me now.

If you feel so strongly about it that death is better than having to write gen, you probably shouldn't sign up for exchanges.

it worked out fine (on the writing part at least) so far for the past 7 or 8 years.

That's just the gamble you have to take. People only have to request one character so even if you ship the biggest pairing in the fandom you could be matched with someone who only wants gen with one of the characters.

+1

And keep in mind that at this point its still a gamble. Plenty of people haven't posted their letters yet (or might never post their letters to the main com), so if you offer the ships you like you still have a decent chance of matching on them.

Are all of these things that you could actually be assigned based on the things you want to offer? You said that's the case for the first fandom, obviously, but is that the case for all of them?

yes, those are the 4 fandoms I planned to offer

No, what I'm asking is whether they're all situations like your first one (someone is requesting C and then putting C/A and C/D feels in the optional details, so you could be assigned this by offering C and B), or whether they're just people having different preferences from you but requesting in a way where you can't be assigned to them. If entirely, or at least mostly, the latter you have way less to worry about.
