The Dirty Energy Source

Do you want to make a spreadsheet about spreadsheets?
Do you still need to figure out what two other fandoms you should request beside the only one you really want fic for?
Or are you trolling ALL the letter posts for placeholders, just so you can write those people some nice, dry coal?

We want to know all about it.

Delete or orphan

You've got those embarrassing old fics on AO3 that you've been eyeing for a while - not necessarily just Yuletide ones. Now that Yuletide's rolling around you really don't want to give your writer the wrong idea about your tastes. (/anyone else, really.) Do you delete? Do you orphan? Do you buckle down and withstand the embarrassment in the name of internet candor or something? Spill.

I moved about 100 old RPF fics to a new account a couple Yuletides ago, because I was no longer writing for that fandom and they overwhelmed my main account (plus I didn't want my author to think the fic of my heart would be a crossover with my old fandom).

It turned out good that I did, because a newspaper just found the fandom. The only thing I feel guilty about is my "old fandom" friends feeling like I dissed them. It wasn't that, guys, honest! I still adore you.

Are you the lolitics writer from the Daily Mirror article? Cos I loved your stuff, but as a fellow writer in that fandom I almost died when I saw the article with the links and quotes. Mind you it could have been worse, they linked to AO3, not the kinkmeme.

Yeah, I about had a heart attack when I saw the new pseud in print. I wouldn't have felt comfortable using it any longer if it had still been my main pseud.

And yes, I'm really glad they didn't find the kinkmeme - that would have been a nightmare!

At least it was a fairly good article, i was pleasantly surprised that they handled the idea of fanfic nicely. None of the point and mock you get from some articles. Mind you I was glad that my kinkier stuff never got transferred over from the mem.

Yeah, it was a great article, about the best I could think of for RPF fanfic.

Orphaned a bunch right before nominations. Old, embarrassing porn in old, embarrassing fandoms. They were some of my most popular though, which is why I didn't delete them outright.

Every time I think about deleting/completely rehauling a mediocre old fic of mine, I think about all of the mediocre fic that I love and reread as a guilty pleasure and stay my hand. I'm enough of a non-entity that it wouldn't make a difference to orphan it - I would know that it was still out there, accumulating lots of kudos (it was a futurefic for a popular thing with a small fandom that ends on a cliffhanger, so this is sadly inevitable).

But I am getting constant kudos on those two embarassing fics. I like kudos :) No idea where those people are coming from, the fandom is dead. So I put up a note that I would have written this pairing differently now.

I'd default on an author who made a habit out of deleting their fics. I can't stand people who do that.
