So possible solutions: Switch to real name as soon as reveals hit, so that anybody reading it as a mod will see real name and not sock. This would require careful timing and the hope that the archive doesn't crap out when the collection is opened.

Or, and someone please explain whether or not this would word, switching names after the assignment is fulfilled but before reveals. Would that cause the sock name to default, if the fic was posted under that name and then switched. The sock would have at least one 1,000 word treat as well.

Your first solution definitely wouldn't work. The mods can read the stories and see who wrote them at any time. If a mod reads your epic Code Name Verity fingerbanging fic in November when it was posted by Socky McSockerson then it doesn't do any good to change the author to Coalie McRealName on January 1st. All that does is confirm to the mods that Socky McSockerson is CoalieMcRealName's dentist.

Doing it the second way wouldn't cause the sock to default and means the mods are less likely to notice the switch, but they can still check on the backend if their suspicions are aroused for some other reason, like if the story itself was wanky.

The only way to keep your socks completely secret from the mods is to leave the stories on the accounts that initially uploaded them. Anything else is dependent on the mods not caring enough to investigate.

I'm gonna be real disappointed if there isn't epic Code Name Verity fingerbanging, coalie.

If there's any justice in the world then the person who wrote the awesome fingerbanging leter will get a ton of epic fingerbanging fic. (Which I can then vicariously enjoy since I didn't have a request slot left for CNV, but am all about the WWII fingerbanging.)

I'm doing option 2 for this reason... but I mean I don't think the mods care as much about socks that fulfill their assignments as they do about the last minute defaulting sock.

If you swap out the fics before the assignments are due, it takes away the 'Fulfilled' part of your assignment. Mods could think that you never fulfilled it and someone (your main account) just posted a treat. They wouldn't go to the PH list, but you'll probably be flagged as a defaulter who failed to default.

The best thing to do is default after the deadline has passed. The mods will have already seen that your accounts didn't default and won't bother to go back through and see if a fic was swapped out. Sure, they may go "oh wasn't the fic posted under a different name??" but that's better than your sock/main account banned for not defaulting.
