The Dirty Energy Source

Do you want to make a spreadsheet about spreadsheets?
Do you still need to figure out what two other fandoms you should request beside the only one you really want fic for?
Or are you trolling ALL the letter posts for placeholders, just so you can write those people some nice, dry coal?

We want to know all about it.

5-Minute Fandoms

Sometimes people put up a list of the really small fandoms (a single panel comic, a painting, one music video or song) and I like to put one of these in my requests. Has anyone done this, or does anyone want to promote one here?

I got really good fic in a five minute fandom 2 years ago, so it can be great. I don't have any to suggest this year, but I do have a suggestion - make sure you've got some solid prompts for any five minute fandom request. Since there isn't a lot of canon to work with, your writer may need a little more guidance than with other fandoms.

I received a treat and wrote in a 5-minute fandom last year and really enjoyed myself. I liked that there wasn't a lot of canon (or fanon) to deal with, and that what I wrote ended up being totally different than the fic I received.

I feel like I used to see the advice "add a 5-minute to your requests to give your author another option if they sour on the fandom you were matched on" a lot more than I have recently and I'm glad because it's really stupid advice. Like everything else, only request it if you really do want to see fic for it. I feel like some people stick those kinds of fandoms into their requests, but then don't have any prompts so I'm wary of offering a lot of 5-min fandoms.

DA

I agree about that "request a 5-minute fandom as a safety fandom!" advice. It works if you actually really like that 5-minute fandom, but you could also work with something fairly short like a movie.
