People nom things they want to offer because more fandoms are needed for offering than requesting and they want to be able to actually do yuletide.

I nom things I want to offer because if I only nommed things I wanted to request there might not be enough fandoms I could actually offer, yeah. Sometimes this means many of the fandoms I offer get no requests, but at least one or two of them always do.

This is so true. And it sucks that sometimes people have to nominate extra fandoms just to reach the offer minimum - I mean, if you nom a fandom that no one requests just so you can offer it, you end up with less "real" offers anyway. I think that would happen less if request and offer minimums were the same.
