Perhaps not in the (in)famous cases, but I am sure, every year someone does get that fic for a character that wasn't nominated, that crossover with a too big to yuletide fandom or a thinly veiled Steve/Tony fic. But it happens quietly and in the shadows, so it fails to hit the wank comms.

Steve/Tony's never happened*, I make a point of checking every year lest the hated Zarabithia be vindicated. The others are bound to.

(Will be intrigued to see if EMH breaks the streak this year. Ditto JL/JLU for Clark/Bruce. SMH at that one.)

*There's one weird crossover and two many fandom mashups it's mentioned in, but all have YT number hits, they weren't straight up Stony that MCU fans would have wanted to/did read.

As somebody who has requested JL/JLU I sincerely hope that nobody does actually request Clark/Bruce. Partially because I don't ship it, mainly because that would be insane.

I counted four different Clark Kents in the tag set. While I don't begrudge alternate versions if they ARE alternates, I'll be interested to see how many fics can only apply to those specific canons.

I wrote a Gotham fic last year, so you'd be surprised. It depends entirely on the fandom, though.

As a Superman fan since forever, I would be delighted if there was a fic written for the Reeve verse nom because it's my nostalgic home and there really isn't a lot; I wouldn't read because I hate it but wouldn't begrudge because it certainly is different a fic for the Man of Steel nom; and I would be keen to look at because I don't know what it is and will have to google it the Lois Lane: [Whatever it Was] nom. The JL/JLU nom I'm side eyeing the hell out of because it's the bulk of what's been written in the last ten years, even more so than actual comics verse, and especially if it turns out to be a bog standard Clark/Bruce.
