Or the opposite: they may end up writing some, IDK, kinky porn or something else they're embarrassed about for their main gift, and want to transfer it to their sock before author reveals so nobody knows who wrote it.

I've done this before. My main account's linked to an ID I use in some con-going circles, and I'd really rather not have people I know IRL knowing I write some really filthy porn, since some of them have zero concept of boundaries. At the same time, orphaning or permanoning a porny Yuletide fic makes me feel like a judgmental asshole, so if I write Yuletide porn, I transfer authorship to my pornsock after my assignment's been logged as fulfilled, but before author reveals.

I've never gotten in shit for it, but my pornsock doesn't moonlight as a dentist, so there's no real reason for anyone to look askance.
