Re: Changing authors on gifts

I did it one year when I took a late pinch-hit that had been unclaimed for some time, with a sock that wasn't signed up for Yuletide. I hadn't actually seen the canon in question though I'd read the book it was based on, and I Kittyfic'ed it by watching clips on Youtube and skimming a transcript and talking with someone in chat who HAD seen it. Also, one likely reason the pinch-hit had languished was that the recipient had no optional details and no letter, so I had no assurance that they would even like the fic. So I was reluctant to admit to this fic under my own pseud.

As it turned out, it was more popular than my actual assignment which I'd spent weeks on and written for a canon of my heart, and got recced a few times. The recipient wrote a long and lovely comment! So I wanted that glory for myself, not my sock, and swapped authors during the anon period.
