I remember it being a real annoyance for many people that year, and not really surprising that there was a backlash the following year.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-29 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)Fall 2011 was before the MCU exploded, though. Steve/Tony was a large pairing in Marvel 616 comics fandom, but still a tiny pairing in movie fandom. And sure enough, five of those six stories were for The Avengers (2012) and one for Marvel 1602, both of which were Yuletide-eligible fandoms at the time. (This was before they instituted the rule that new fandoms had to have been released before the nominations period closed.)
The Steve/Tony writers and their recipients really didn't do anything wrong.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-29 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)Well, that's a bit of an apples and oranges question, since 2011 was before they came up with the fakakta rule about how characters tagged 1000+ times are ineligible even if their nominated fandom is eligible. The fandom's eligibility was all that mattered.
But since I'm sure there were eligible Marvel 616 titles that featured both Steve and Tony in 2011, then broadly speaking: sure, Steve/Tony was eligible in comics fandom, too.
