Re: Writers who (don't) respond to comments

I'm guilty of this - it's usually an social anxiety thing for me, when there's a comment I love so I think just a generic 'thanks!' or 'I'm glad you liked it!' is too abrupt but I struggle to write more, and then it gets too late and it's awkward. And if there are other comments on the fic, I can't respond to those either, because then I'll have to reply to that one comment.

So some fics I reply to all comments and some I reply to none :/

+1

I often don't reply to comments, but it's pretty much all anxiety-based. It was particularly bad last year because I wrote a couple of fics about which I was strongly ambivalent, so I basically just avoided all comments on them because I was pretty sure my responses to anything with even a breath of criticism would have been "yes, I'm sorry, this fic is sweaty garbage and I'm a worse person for having written it."

I have this problem, too. I appreciate those long comments so much, so I want to say more . . . BUT WHAT? :-/

+1, but the other way! I always force myself to reply to the first comments on my fics, because then my anxiety will make me reply to all the rest, since I'd feel so conspicuously awkward not doing it that I couldn't bear it.
