My opinion is that if it's a part of your cultural history than it's fine. If you aren't the ethnicity/nationality for whatever your pagan religion of choice, then it is tryhard and slightly problematic, esp since people tend to choose the "cool" religions like GrecoRoman or Norse mythology and never idk African or Southeast Asian gods and hmm isn't that telling. It goes double when they pick the cool gods when claiming to care about SJ or intersectionality but are never critical about why they picked what they picked.

AS calls herself an /atheist pagan/ though, which makes her both of those things and an idiot.

Don't forget that it's not just a hypothetical worship either. They believe Athena directly spoke to them. Personally I'm more bothered at the fact that they're not only poor at commenting, but are perfectly happy to submit some of the worst art I have ever seen to exchanges.

My guess is AS would never choose African or Southeast Asian gods to worship as a white person. She'd call it problematic and flagellate herself for it.

She used to be an atheist but not any more.

My best memory of EM/AS was from reading the Slacktivist comments a few years ago. They got into a flame war because they claimed they could only eat breakfast pastries every morning to get enough calories for the day, when several people pointed out a pound of bananas and many other breakfast foods cost less than the pastries, had more food and would be more filling, and wouldn't impact their health as badly as EM/AS said the pastries did. My takeaway from the hundred-odd comments was that EM/AS was an idiot, and nothing since has indicated this has changed.

Food is actually one of the easiest things to start a flame war over. That, household appliances, and differing cultural ideas of cleanliness. This I have learned from hanging out on ffa for five years.

I honestly believe that the main reason why she stopped being an atheist was simply because pagans get more oppression points in SJ circles.

Anybody who's gender-queer probably takes enough shit from people over it, on a daily basis, to not need to start more shit over a religion that doesn't meet their needs.

It's not like taking shit for one thing ever prevented anyone from starting shit about many other things. There is plenty of shit to go around.
