When does the main Yuletide collection close on AO3? As in, when are you no longer able to post to the collection?
I have a treat I'd like to post, but I just need to finish editing. It's more than 1k words, so I know it belongs in the main collection rather than Madness.

Coalies, I have a problem. For the sake of argument, let's say I requested Sif and Heimdall in the MCU, my request was a shipy one and Incest was one of my DNWs. I received an email from the mods asking that since Sif and Heimdall are related in some of the myths (unlike the canon were there's no reason to believe they are) would I be okay if they were in a shippy fic? What if they don't know? I said I'd prefer if they weren't but I could be okay with it if they didn't know. I was very explicit about it being a DNW if they knew.
Flash forward to my fic, with features the two as siblings which only one of them knows. The other one makes overtures to the first one but is refused. The fic doesn't technically include my DNW, I guess, but it still squirts uncomfortaby close to it.
(Add to this the focus on characters I didn't request, to the expanse of the ones I did, and I feel like my fic was not written for me but repurposed, instead.)
Should I say anything to the mods?

Has anyone read any legitimately good Hamilton fics in the archive besides the Rise Up/Interlude one that's been recc'ed a few times? I want to read a few, but don't want to wade through 57 potentially dreckky Ham/Lauren's in college fluff/bang fests just to find out there isn't much quality there. Prefer canon or, at least, not modern AU.
Ask for recs for a fandom/trope. Or just post unsolicited recs of fics you think are great.
Oooookay, I clearly have too much time on my hands, but I got curious after the discussion about whether last-minute pinch hits mean recips get coal, and I went and looked at the fics that resulted from the last 10 PHs to see what was up.
This was a very scientific study, obviously.

My very scientific verdict: if recip had been assigned to this writer to begin with, more time might have been great for them, but overall they got a pretty solid thing that I’d be really happy to get as a regular YT gift?

http://archiveofourown.org/works/5409212 (Incompetent Time-Travelling Saxophone Haters, 1775 words) is a treat (so not an assigned PH) but also looks like people loved it.
http://archiveofourown.org/works/5511683 (Twelve Dancing Princesses, 2099 words). This is 1st-person POV, which I really dislike, but people who read it seemed to think it was good.
Verdict: One of the two non-treat fics could be an eventually completed placeholder (all 3 fics were posted on the 24th, so impossible to tell), but definitely would take the very good first fic over lots of non-PH YT fic, and recip got two other fics. Win.
----319 got something on December 20th which looks like either a re-assigned treat or a placeholder fic that was finally updated: http://archiveofourown.org/works/5472041 (Tsuritama, Haru/Sanada Yuki, 1,007 words), which is really sweet.
They also got this as a PH: http://archiveofourown.org/collections/yuletide2015/works/5513201 (The Eagle, Marcus/Esca, 5479 words). The fic is great and really in character and seems to respond exactly to the recip’s letter—long, too.
Verdict: Definitely would take this over a lot of non-PH fic; looks like recip got lucky af with that Eagle fic

I would be totally fine with a default if it resulted in me getting this

OVERALL VERDICT Statistically speaking, late late PHs seem not only to not get coal, but to often get fic that is as awesome, or more awesome, than fic they might have received from their original writer.
The two post-deadline PHs, and the The Eagle and Dancing Princesses pre-deadline PHs, are honestly all things I would have been pretty fucking stoked to get for YT. A lot of the others I would have been really happy with too, and I may be missing an UTTER GEM because I don’t know the fandom.

What is the issue that so many people have with the comics rules? I'm very new to comics, so I've missed a lot of the discussion on it. What are some of the canons that are facing issues under the rules?

Every time I've spied a fandom I'm excited to read, it's a drabble from that challenge, and every one I've read so far was 100 words. And about the same quality as this:
The Hot Day
Laura gazed at the green field, then went inside to wash the dishes. She scrubbed the skillet clean of the lard Ma'd fried chicken in, and waited for Pa to come in from his plowing. The day was hot. He would probably be sweaty and need a bath. Ma would fetch the water and heat it for him before he got back. Laura dried the skillet and wondered what they would have for dinner tomorrow night, and whether tomorrow would be as hot as today, or cooler. She threw the dirty water outside and went to put her nightgown on.
Maybe there are a lot of 1k stories that are as pointless, but it's the 100-worders I keep HITTING.
