Would it be breaking yuletide anonymity to just ask your friend (privately and avoiding references to a specific prompt or fandom) how they would feel about this situation? You're friends, you should be able to communicate.

+1

I keep seeing all these comments back and forth and I just keep thinking, why don't they ask their friend "Hey, I really like one of your prompts--would you mind if I use it for my assignment since my recipient didn't give me any information?"

DA

But that's putting their friend on the spot - I know I'd feel obligated to say "Of course I don't mind", even if I did.

"I would prefer it if you didn't."

Yup. It's the same as if they anonymous asked Treat Recip A if they were okay with the author using their prompts for Assigned Recip B. What else can you say?

No? Like a normal person capable of answering questions their friends asks them about what they feel comfortable with.

I don't think many Treat Recip As would say yes in this scenario.

By that same logic, one should never ask any favor of their friends because they're obligated to do it.

that is why you don't ask a tonne of favors from you friends, yeah. take interpersonal communication 101 and they cover it.

Ah, yes, personal attacks on my ability to have friends, that does demonstrate that you have superior social skills.

You must not have a lot of good friends. This is true for casual acquaintances, not for people you're close to.

AYRT

It's Ask vs Guess culture. Ask culture says it's not rude to refuse, so it's not rude to ask for inconvenient things. Guess culture says it's rude to refuse, so it's rude to ask for inconvenient things.

I'm from a Guess culture, so I normally don't ask for favours from friends, unless it's important.
