Pollute the Air

Did your favorite fandom get rejected because it was one fic over the limit?
Have you just fallen in love with a new fandom the day after nominations ended?
Or are you morbane?

Tell us all

Also:
In the last post the idea came up to create a community where you can post your most shameful yuletide requests anonymously. Check out [community profile] youwantwhat

Thinking about hockey rpf - do you think cw rpf or supernatural rpf would have gotten in since you can just take out jensen ackles and jared padalecki?

No, because the mods were still taking fandom size into account. The hockey RPF thing was because they allowed the loophole of nominating more specific segments of the fandom as fandoms in themselves. (Unless CW RPF or Supernatural RPF could break down into narrower, more specific segments that are rare enough for Yuletide?)

I think the archive synns CW RPF with the RPF categories for all the various CW shows. So, since SPN RPF is way over, I guess CW RPF automatically is? Maybe anon could make an argument for non-SPN CW RPF.

I bet someone could make an argument for specific other shows on the CW RPF. Not the whole network CW RPF though. But if they said "Arrow RPF" or something that might work. (I have no idea what the size of Arrow RPF is, I'm just using it as an example because idk what else airs on CW nowadays.)

I just filtered the CW RPF results using -"Supernatural RPF" and there were less than 1k fics, so Arrow RPF is definitely eligible. Literally 9k of the CW RPF fics are tagged as SPN RPF.

Someone may have nominated Arrow RPF and had it accepted.... Maybe.

It doesn't matter what the archive syns, because you can write in your fandom instead of using autofill. So you could've nominated RPF for a non-SPN show.

I know? I wasn't talking about the nomination form, I was purely talking about numbers. The archive includes SPN RPF inside CW RPF so CW RPF as a whole is automatically too big for yuletide.

I'm not the one interested in nominating it, btw. That was the anon a couple posts above me, who was thinking about nominating non-J2 CW RPF. Therefore, the non-J2 CW RPF numbers are relevant.

I honestly don't think they'd even consider applying the same rules to SPN RPF. Maaaaybe CW RPF, since it's a network instead of a show.

I don't think so, but there are ways around it, especially if you're good at the six degrees game - if you wanted to read about, say, Mark Sheppard and Misha Collins, you could technically request them under 24 RPF.

(Anonymous) 2014-10-08 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
You couldn't, because Misha appears in more than 1,000 stories and is ineligible.

(Anonymous) 2014-10-08 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
They rejected the nomination for the YouTube series "Cooking Fast and Fresh with West" even though Misha wasn't nominated, only West and Maison. So I don't think they wanted to let through anything even remotely connected to Jensen and Jared.

I don't think that rejection would have anything to do with J2. Why would it? It might have to do with being RPF about two small children, though.

(Anonymous) 2014-10-08 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
It was accepted and written in last year, the only difference I can think of in the rules is the way they were dealing with closely related RPF fandoms.

(Anonymous) 2014-10-08 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Are there rules against underage characters in Yuletide? It'd be weird if they rejected that on grounds of decency and not the serial killers. I have to imagine it was a knee jerk rejection for being too close to SPN RPF rather than because they're kids.

Especially since GISHWISHES (or however it's spelled...) is rejected too and it seems like the only characters in that were anthropomorphic...

(Anonymous) 2014-10-08 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
There aren't, to my knowledge, not even for RPF. I'd be fine with both of those fandoms being wiped out, though.

(Anonymous) 2014-10-08 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently they rejected GISHWHES too, so I guess there's just a Misha vendetta.

I feel ashamed to be participating in Yuletide given what I worry will become of the true crime category. Hopefully it'll be a very small number of people writing stories for each other than 99.99999% of us can just fucking ignore. Still, though. Jesus.

True crime could be a story about what really happened to D.B. Cooper or something, or some theory about Al Capone's private life I guess, and that type of thing wouldn't really bother me. But if someone lovingly writes shit about serial murderers, especially people like Harris and Klebold, I'm going to have public fits about how that should not be allowed into Yuletide, sorry. I feel like doing it now, but there are no names actually nominated, so who knows.

(Anonymous) 2014-10-10 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
The mods already removed modern serial killers and renamed the category to (I think) Historical Crime RPF. I'm pretty sure your concerns have already been addressed.
