That person does not belong in Yuletide. You can want to request for tiny fandoms but if you can’t write a 1k fic in a fic exchange, you shouldn’t be signing up. Is their discord their AO3 name?

I hate that their response to everyone gently and kindly telling them that this is not going to work was to throw a panic attack and flaunt anxiety and "everyone hates me" and "I should just go". It feels like such a manipulative ploy to make the mods reassure them. I hate even more that the mods ARE.

I mean, if they really truly CANNOT write prose (as they keep insisting they can't) I think they really should just go? You can't guarantee to only match to someone in the poem challenge. And what a shitty situation for a recipient who, quite understandably, would never have thought they needed to DNW poetry in a fanfiction exchange where prose has always been the default.

I wouldn't mind a short poetry treat for Madness, but 1k of poetry is quite a bit of poetry! D:

What's the difference between a main gift and a treat? Truly it is a mystery.

They're having a meltdown about how they just can't write prose (in a prose exchange) but their reasoning for wanting to participate anyways is that they want to receive fic in their tiny fandoms...yeah sorry but if you can't write you don't get a gift.

The problem is on one side there is the people who say clearly DNW everything that would ruin a fic for you. On the other side there is the people who say that people who have long DNW lists are wankers who are hard to write for. Which side should be listened to?

Eh, this person is talking about how they can ONLY write poetry and clearly intends to write it as a main gift. I wouldn’t love poetry as a treat, but I wouldn’t hate it the way I would hate getting poetry as my main gift.

Yeah, I do not like or get poetry. An opt-in challenge for poetry is great! Other people can have fun with it and enjoy it! Giving poetry to people who haven’t requested it? Not so much.

In all fairness, this person does seem to be strategizing by offering for canons where people are requesting fic in unusual formats.

If someone wrote me a poem as a madness treat I'd be delighted; I think a few of the characters I've picked this year lend themselves well to poetry.

Yeah, exactly. This is why I think all challenges should be opt-in, no exceptions. The "long DNW list equals wanker/hard to please/crappy recips" crowd seems to be the majority.

This is the problem with CoN. Morbane is a mod, she should tell this person straight that they can’t write poetry unless it’s requested. She can do this via PM if she wants. Why is it better to handhold someone coming close to breaking the rules and let someone get a bad gift that maybe even requires a stressful emergency PH in two months? Stop this bullshit now, it’s literally your job Morbane. Politeness isn’t going to help this person from having a bad match that they likely will default on, or their recip who may get DNW poetry that isn’t even fic.

Yeah, I'm really disappointed in them right now. Most people are not in the Discord to see this conversation. Meanwhile this person is like, "But I'm checking to see if people have DNWed it and am trying to make sure I don't match to anyone who has. But no one has! Because you shouldn't need to!

I'm sure the mods will go behind the scenes and hand match this person to someone who actually wants poetry, but why are they hand-holding this special snowflake at all? It just opens the door to more and more of them. Like trialia.

What's the bet they put them on the list to hand-match, like they do with Untherius.

I think poetry, drabbles, IF, and art should be opt-in, but not the other challenges that are simply genres of fic.

Art and IF are specifically opt-in. I don’t think there’s any reason for drabbles to be opt-in since there’s no chance of them becoming a main gift, but I know coal has opinions on this. I definitely think poetry should be opt-in.

Rosencrantz seems to be the one really pushing here. Morbane's basically been gently pushing Aon toward realization that this is not a good idea (as are most of the others in the convo), but Rosencrantz and Rosefox are both being way too enabling.

What's the bet that the mods hand-match, and then this person defaults riiiiight after getting a story uploaded to the collection?
