If I wanted to write original fic, I wouldn't do it for yuletide. I would do it with the hope of publishing for money.

I mean, ideally everyone would get to match only on fandoms they 100% love and are enthusiastic about writing. But no one is guaranteed that, and sometimes there just isn't anyone requesting the ~fandoms of your heart. So then yes, to participate, the writer has to lower their standards and offer something else. Suck it up and offer a music video or something even though you don't care about it - presumably your recip will, and that's the ultimate goal in writing a gift fic, right?

Idk, if you're really that limited in what you can write then exchanges like this are going to be difficult; you have to be matchable somehow or other.
