I don't include a primer in my letters as I assume that if someone's matched on a fandom, then they offered it because they're familiar with the canon. I'll talk a bit about why I like a canon, and which parts of it I love, but I don't use letters to try and draw in people who don't know the canon. If I pick something really obscure, I might link to a source, in case someone needs it for canon review, but otherwise wouldn't bother with any other basic stuff about the canon.

From the other side, I do find it a bit offputting if I'm matched with someone who includes a lengthy canon description, as I wouldn't offer something I wasn't familiar with, and don't need a canon recap. What I'm looking for is their likes and dislikes, and what it is about the canon that they want to explore.
