Maybe the writer just doesn't like that particular female character or those particular female characters. But they do like the canon and they like the character type of some of the male characters, but would rather see more of that character type in a female character. Would you rather they write an OOC version of the canonical female character? You sound like those people who boggle that anybody could like Canon A without liking Character B.
