Probably not today. They've just sent out the "you have no recipients, please change your offers" emails and I think the mods will give them some time (24hrs maybe?) to respond.

Just wondering, does someone having no possible recips mean that literally everything they offered ended up having zero requests? Or can it also mean that any recips they might potentially have been able to match with were already matched with someone else first, so they just got unlucky in the algorithm somehow?

No, that is not true. It is the former. Someone having no possible recips means that no one's requests matched what this person was offering. For example, maybe you offered two out of the three characters in the tagset for Fandom A, but the only request for that fandom asked for all three characters. If you add the third character, you will become matchable.

I think it's the former. The mods have double assigned writers to the same recipient when the later is true in the past.

If you can write for even one person, you don't have to add offers. Mods will double assign if necessary. You only have to add offers if you can literally write for nobody.

When you run a gift exchange on AO3 and generate matches you get several tabs: the list of potential assignments for that version of matching, people that don't have recips or authors for that version, and people that won't have any potential recips or authors no matter how many times you run matching.

It's those people that the mods are concerned about. People without authors get sent out as initial pinch hits, the people that don't get matched because their potential match is already assigned somewhere are either double-assigned as writers or also go out as initial pinch hits and none of that requires waiting for getting responses back from participants. It's the people that don't have any recips that need to be contacted and hear if they want to change their offers or drop out.

No one is obligated to stalk the signup summary/letters post/tagset app to make sure they're matchable. You put in your offers in good faith, and the mods will tell you if you need to add more.

Even if you relentlessly refresh the signup summary, forgoing sleep, there's no guarantee your potential recipients don't change their requests just before signups end.

+1 And even if you DID stalk, that only gets you so far. Less than half of recipients have posted letters.

Requests aren't visible for Yuletide, how the hell are you supposed to ensure you have a recip when you have no way of knowing if people are requesting the things you're offering?

For the first time ever in several years of doing Yuletide, I got one of those emails. Apparently most of the fandoms I offered either had no one or no one but me requesting them. I am disappointed, because there was one that I hadn't nominated, but I guess the person who did changed their mind about requesting it. Or maybe they also wanted to write but not receive it?

I was able to add a couple more characters to be matchable, and my potential recip (I'm pretty sure there's only one) seems nice and has some prompts I can work with. It's a bit of a bummer that my assignment won't be a surprise, but I feel good about the match overall.

Anyway, I already sent in my reply, so hopefully that helps to move things along.

I decided to not request fandoms I haven't nominated that have no other requests.

Tomorrow at the earliest. 8 people have no possible recipients, if any of them drop out they might create more unmatchable writers, and even if they don't there's a decent chance that at least one will just idle out (aka ignore the warning e-mail and just be dropped after 24 hours).

Idling out and then whining about it is pretty much a guarantee.

I’m about to get on a 6 hour flight, so I’m kinda hoping that assignments will be out when I land! Seems unlikely though, sadly...

Aren't we supposed to get all requests fairly soon too, instead of waiting until mid-November or whenever? Maybe we'll get those within a couple hours or a day.

Yeah, that's what they've said! I'm really excited about that too, especially because there was a couple of things I wanted to potentially treat that never had any letters posted.
